I have been using Amazing Casting Resin for over three years now and I still find it to be, not only one of my favorite products, but also one of the most versatile. One of my new favorite ways to use it is with embossing folders.

Embossing Folders are primarily used in paper arts. You add a piece of cardstock in between the folder and then run it through an embossing machine like the Spellbinders Grand Calibur, Sizzix, etc. But today, were going to use them then in a different way! With so many brands and styles to choose from, you can see why I'm so excited about this technique.

Before beginning add some wax paper to your table top. This helps to protect your surface. Next add some Alumilite Gold Metallic Powder to the folder.

Mix up two equal parts of Amazing Casting Resin and add a drop of Alumilite Black Dye to part "A" and mix thoroughly. Please CLICK HERE to view mixing/preparation.

Prop your folder up – making sure the base is flat. Combine parts "A" and "B" of Amazing Casting Resin together stirring completely, and gently pour your resin on top of the folder. Using a popsicle stick, spread it out to desired thickness.

Once cured, gently peel off your resin embossed sheet. Clean your folder with a baby wipe. I simply love the organic edges.

Now my noggin can think up many many ways to use these resin embossed sheet... I can paint a wood box and glue on the sheet in assorted locations, giving the piece texture.

It can also give a handmade journal that extra kick...

I can even make some soldered jewelry...

...and because I have issues with throwing out scraps I also created this magnet using the cut up scraps to make this mosaic like background. I then covered it in Amazing Clear Cast Resin.

With so many embossing folder designs and
the assorted metallic powders the designs are endless.

Happy Creating friends. ~ Cat

  1. This is such a fabulous idea and the ideas for possibilities are whirling! Just one question - what is the condition of the embossing folder after you're finished - will it still emboss cleanly, or is it going to be relegated to this technique pretty much from now on? Thanks for the great idea!

  4. Tristan - I have done this in the past and used a light coating of olive oil spray to the embossing folder rubbed on with a paper towel. I did not use the powders on the folder like Cat Did. It did not affect my folder at all - just had to wash off oil with soap and water when done.

Edie - this is the Sizzix Texture Fades Embossing Folders 2PK - Bottle Caps & Rulers Set. Darice has a ruler folder as well {I think I might hunt down that one also}.

We'd love to see what you create with this technique! P.S. A little birdie told us that there might be another giveaway real soon... perhaps tomorrow.... :)
