Sweet Treats lead to #Cre8time Greencrafting and a Mini Koi Pond... by Tracy Alden

Hello! Tracy here with another Amazing Casting Products inspired project! Though in all honestly it wasn't just resin that got me thinking; crème brûlée, the lack of sleep and The Simpsons also helped. Without sounding completely daft, let me try to explain...

A friend of mine served some crème brûlée one day while I was visiting, and she noted that the glass cups that the crème brûlée served in was sold pre-packaged. She wondered if I could find a use for them. Of course I took several to see what projects I could come up with. Next came not sleeping so well, but often in the middle of the night I get great art ideas.

One of those ideas was turning the crème brûlée cups into miniature ponds. However as lack of sleep is known to play funny tricks on the mind, instead of normal fish I thought of Koi fish looking like "Blinky the Three-Eyed Fish™" from The Simpsons swimming merrily in the ponds. With all this inspiration I just had to make them!

Supplies:

I started off making sure the crème brûlée cups were thoroughly cleaned and dried, making sure to not leave any fibers in the glass thanks to static electricity.

Next I applied the Grey Multi Suface Chalk Paint with a cosmetic sponge inside and out of the glass cups. They needed two coasts of paint to get a color shade similar to cement. I let the paint dry overnight.

To make the pebbles for the bottom of the pond I used Premo White clay that had dried out and crumbled. Using a Clay Craft Blade I cut up the clay into tiny little bits and then baked the clay as per the manufacturers instructions.

I mixed up some Amazing Clear Cast Resin and poured a thin layer of resin into the cups and sprinkled the now cured clay pebbles on top. I made sure to completely cover the bottom of the cup with the pebbles.

Before the bottom layer of resin started to set I mixed up another small batch of Amazing Clear Cast Resin and poured it on top of the clay pebbles to lock them in place.

I cut up little pieces of scrap plastic and stuck them in the wet resin to give the appearance of reeds in the pond. I was careful to make sure the plastic reeds were nestled in-between the clay pebbles. I let this cure completely sealing the pebbles and reeds in place.

I created polymer clay Three-Eyed Koi fish, lily pads and flower buds using Premo Polymer Clay and Alumilite's 4 Piece Carver Set. I poured a layer of resin into the cups and carefully placed the fish in the resin. I kept them in place by looping thread around their bodies and attaching the thread to pencils, suspending them in the resin. I let this layer of resin cure.

The finishing touch was to pour one more layer of resin, making the fish look like they were in water and floating the clay lily pads, flowers and flocking fiber on the surface of the resin.

Once the final layer of resin was cured the ponds were ready to be placed in any miniature scene I would like. :)

What AMAZING arts and crafts can you create?

I've always enjoyed taking things apart and altering them. I was excited to find this old clock at a rummage sale. I took the clock apart so I could gesso and paint it.

While the clock was drying, I started making resin pieces to embellish this project. I used Amazing Casting Resin to make more sea pieces from molds cast in Amazing Mold Putty.

I wanted the globe over the clock mechanism to look like an underwater picture, so I used the Amazing Clear Cast Resin to create this beautiful scene. I added a variety of resin pieces, some pearls and even welcomed the bubbles the clear resin created to give it an underwater look and feel.

I put the clock back together. Using cheesecloth, corrugated cardboard, various flowers, wood pieces, scrapbook papers and of course resin pieces – I created this one-of-a-kind working clock.

I think it came out beautiful! If you would like to see a start-to-finish video of my process, please visit my YouTube channel "BsAlteredDesigns" and this link https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-oVwNjSFaIs.

Thanks to Susan and Amazing Casting Products for inviting me as a guest designer. I have really enjoyed creating with these amazing products. ~ Bridget

Home is Where the Cat Is... by Maria Soto

Hi there, this is Maria and today I want to share a fun project I created using some of my extra resin castings. I have a box full of pieces I've created and I wanted to work on a photo frame for my son. He just finished putting together his home office and I thought it would be nice to make a photo frame that would hold his baby kitten's picture.

I have made other projects using this cat head mold that I created using Amazing Mold Putty and  Amazing Casting Resin – please CLICK HERE to jump over to my blog to see how I created this fun mold with another mixed-media cat themed creation.

When making molds using Amazing Mold Putty you have to keep in mind it's going to last you a very long time, so chose fun things to mold – things that you know you can use in many different ways. That's the fun part about making your own molds... you can use them in any way you chose to.

I used a wood photo frame I had on hand, painted it and used some stickers to mask the bird and branch with flowers on the top of the frame. I then used some letter stamps to add a phrase to the frame "Home is Where the Cat Is", which is perfect for us – we have three cats and they have made our home a better place to be.

I added Amazing Clear Cast Resin on the entire frame once the paint was completely dried. I used it to adhere the resin cat's head to the frame and the little yarn ball and piece of yarn that goes around part of the frame. I thought the yarn would add a nice dimension to the frame. The resin looks like glass on the frame. I tried taking lots of photos indoors and outside to try and capture how the Amazing Clear Cast Resin looks amazing on this frame, but it's pretty hard to photograph. I took this frame to work, and everyone loved it.

The cat's head was made using the Amazing Casting Resin. I can't say this enough, but I love using this resin to cast most of my molds – because its not only fast and easy to use, but you can use just about any type of paints to add color after the resin is cured... or you can add color to the resin when mixing. It really is a great product to use.

I hope that I have inspired you to go and bring out your old molds and see how you can create new ideas with them... please be sure to share them with us via social media. We love to see what everyone creates with #AmazingCastingProducts.

What would you cast in Amazing Mold Putty
to customize your keepsake frame?

Thanks for visiting! I invite you to stop over to my blog "What is Creativity"

Transform Found Textures into #MixedMedia Art
by Aimée Wheaton

Hi all! Aimée here with some ideas of turning random textures into reusable pieces for your mixed media art. I'm always looking for unique patterns and texture so I thought I'd search the house for random items to mold and then create some textures to use and reuse in any project.

I have to say this was a breakthrough for me, I knew what I wanted to mold but was going to just show you the pieces I created, instead it ended up a piece of art. I haven't done "art" since losing my Dad very suddenly last Summer. This amazing design team has been keeping my hands crafty and for that I'm grateful. I was in complete shock when I finished this!! I hope you enjoy, it's been stewing since last Summer apparently.

I gathered up the elements I wanted to mold, just bits and pieces of things, an old frame, trim, a broken earring that was made a long time ago by my Mom.

Of course I started with my favorite product Amazing Mold Putty! I only wanted a part of the picture frame but the whole thing has some awesome texture. I grabbed equal parts of the putty and began mixing it.

When it was mixed I spread it on the area I wanted to mold and let it harden, while it was setting I started molding my other pieces I was going to use.

I used the rusty part with the flowers and bow.

Working it's magic!

Next came the trim that I wanted to use as embellishments and cut out if I wanted them while the resin was still soft. I chose a bunch of different rope like trim.

Kinda fun right?

Next I started making my texture plates which I will use like stamps which is what I wanted for that extra grunge effect.

I crumpled up aluminum foil – I wasn't sure it would work but it did!!

It looks like a brain to me.

Broken earring that had some fun texture.

I pressed it into the soft putty and created my own pattern.

The end result.

OK... so I made two texture plates and two molds. For these molds I ended up adding a lip on all sides so the resin wouldn't spill out by mixing more mold putty and and adding it to the already cured mold – it adheres to itself!

Once the molds were done I decided to use some Alumidust to add to the interest. I just love the colors of these dusts, very shimmery and fun to use in so many ways.

So pretty!!

Love this combo!

Next, I mixed my favorite Amazing Casting Resin and poured into the molds. This sets quickly which is great for any project if you need something and don't have it. Please CLICK HERE to view mixing/preparation.

Waiting is the hard part. Amazing Casting Resin cures in about 10 minutes (approx. depending on how big the molds are and how much resin you use).

This is kind of a cheat but I created it last year, it's a 12" x 12" canvas panel that I collaged and painted on with water colors and inks. It's been sitting in a drawer waiting to be used. I took it out and started playing with it, so glad I had this part done already. This project came together quickly.

Love how the tile turned out and the rope accents are fun too! I trimmed out the pieces I wanted while it was still soft enough to do that.

So vibrant!!

Next I applied gesso to soften the background.

Derwent Inktense Chalk – first time using this kit!! I scribbled around the canvas.

Then I applied water with a brush to turn them into water color and let them drip a bit.

I collaged on the dress form graphic and let that dry, then I went around with my "brain" texture using StazOn Teal Blue ink.

BRAIN!

Then I smudge the earring one in parts using the ink as well.

This is the place I like to call a CREATIVE PAUSE because I got so in the zone I forgot to take photos. Basically I just went around the canvas and painted, gessoed and drew on more Inktense, smoothed areas out and just played. Sorry about that! LOL!

I added on some shimmery Alumidust on here while the paint was wet, can you see it?

You can see it really good here! Also noticed I've glued down the elements I created.

The top rope! Love it!

I really like it!!! Last thing I did was edge it with Black StazOn ink (not pictured here).

You can see the dimensions here.

What do you think? I had fun with this one!! I am still considering coating it with Amazing Clear Cast Resin but I'm going to think about it for a bit. :)

Let me see what amazing textures you have around your house!!
