I Heart YOU with a Valentine Message Board... Tutorial by Isabel Villarreal

Valentine's Day is just around the corner and I found the perfect way to leave words of love, for my love. This cork board is perfect for pinning notes, cards and random messages of cuteness.

I have an old mirror with a metal cherub embellishment and I've been dying to mold it and the upcoming holiday was the perfect opportunity! I carefully removed the embellishment and pulled out my trusty jars of Amazing Mold Putty. I found a nice flat surface to work on and separated equal parts of "A" and "B" in preparation {click here to view mixing instructions}. After mixing the two parts until they were an even yellow color I pressed the mixture into the metal surface, being sure to cover the entire piece. Once it was covered, I flipped it over to cure.

The finished mold looked perfect. Using small soft brushes I painted the mold with Alumilite Metallic Gold, Bronze and Pearlescent Powders – blending the colors for a soft look. After painting the mold, I was ready to cast my own cherub. I decided on Amazing Clear Cast Resin because I knew it would result in a slight transparency when painted and also because I was trying to give the piece a frosted glass look and feel. This piece was thick in some places especially around the cherub face so I did two layers. The first pouring was about 1/8" thick and about 3 hours later I poured the second layer to the rim {click here to view prep/mixing of clear cast resin}.

The Amazing Clear Cast Resin will take about 12-24 hours to set fully so I figured I would work on creating the message board that my angel would be decorating. For the board I cut three hearts: one 9" heart from 1/4" thick cork, one 11" heart from printed cotton twill and one 13" heart from red felt. The twill and felt hearts were cut using pinking shears to give them a nicer edge and also to keep the fabric from fraying. The cork heart was edged with pink twill binding and I used craft glue to layer them. I cut a 6" piece of binding and made a cute bow and attached it to the cork heart with hot glue. A couple of heart gems give the bow some glitz.

And the moment finally arrived...my cherub was completely cured after about 14 hours and the Alumilite Metallic Powders gave me the finish I was trying for. Yay! I love it when things turn out well the way I want.

I used an epoxy adhesive to attach my adorable cherub to the cork board. Grommets and a ribbon gave it a nice finishing touch. I even added a few gemstones to the cherub casting. This message board is now ready to be hung on a wall or it can be hung on the fridge using a magnetic hook.

Love notes never looked so good!

I can't wait to use this cork board to leave my honey bun sweet messages daily!

Using Resin with Original Art to Create AMAZING Mixed Media... by Tanya Ruffin

It's two for Thursday!! Tanya here with another AMAZING project to share. I was recently looking for a unique was to display some original art of John Wayne I had created. After our New Year's Eve gathering, I was looking at a plastic 5th of whiskey and thought... "Hey, I can make a John Wayne label for the whiskey bottle!" Well that morphed into the final project.

I printed out a high resolution laser image of my painting and decoupaged it to the whiskey bottle (no whiskey was harmed or lost during the making of this craft).

Using some washi tape I picked up one day at Office Depot (of all places), I covered up the traces of the whiskey label around the neck of the bottle.

A few more embellishments here and there and I am done.... but it looks so blah!

I know, I need a badge!

Sticking to the True Grit theme, I needed a Marshal's badge. Of course the first thing I thought of was to buy a toy badge and make a mold. Easy enough, right? Except I couldn't find a Marshal's badge anywhere (for a reasonable price). Ok, so I only went to the dollar store, but that is beside the point! So I decided to buy some kids plastic badges to cast.

Then I noticed the blister pack, which many of us (I am sure) have used in the past. The blister pack was a perfect mold! No need to remake a mold when I have a free one right here! So I used the blister pack mold. I could probably use it only a couple of time before it would fall apart, but I only needed one!

So what molds will you find in blister packs?

I used the Sheriff section for the mold and Amazing Casting Resin with a little Alumilite Black Dye to get a gray color when cured. I wish I knew this would come out so cool or I would have used some of the Alumilite Gunmetal Metallic Powder with it.

Rooster Cogburn in True Grit was a Marshal not a Sheriff, so whats a girl to do?

Well, using an old brush, I painted resin over the debossed letters in SHERIFF until it was almost flat. Then I hand-painted MARSHAL over it. I also added DEPUTY and U.S. to the badge to make it at least correct terminology. It doesn't look exactly the same but at least it doesn't say SHERIFF!

Added some copper and silver Rub 'n Buff® accents
and it was ready to embellish my piece.

Oops, I dropped it and broke the corner of the badge taking this picture.
But you can see it the corner is clearly there in my display at CHA.

Mold Rubber Monday... AMAZING Over-Molding iRepair by Lonnie Sexton

This post is dedicated to all the people that had their Apple charging cord break shortly after purchase. The cables they made in 2007-2008 are better than the cables they sell today. Not because there is much difference in materials, but because they no longer have the cable assemblies over molded with a strain relief. This rubber coated strain relief over the cable and connector would prevent the cable from pulling out of the connector under flex and tug.

Same cables, less production cost, same retail price...

In this tutorial, I am going to over mold the ends of my iPad2
charging cable using Amazing Mold Rubber and Amazing Mold Putty.

Parts/Tools:

Steps:

Prepping the cable was quick and easy. Wrap the end of the cable where it meets the connector with electrical tape until it forms a small barrel around the end.

 Tape Barrel Added

Using Foam Core board and hot glue make a mold box to fit the ends side by side. Cut a relief in one wall 1/2 way down for the cable to stick out of the side of the mold box.

Mix equal parts of Amazing Mold Putty and press into the bottom of the mold box evenly. I used about 70 grams of each part. Press the prepped connectors into the putty. Use a small flat object to press the putty into the tight areas of the object. Let cure.

Apply ample amounts of Mold Release to the putty around the part.
Let dry 15 minutes and repeat for three applications.

Mix and Press the second 1/2 of the mold. Let cure.

After the Amazing Mold Putty is cured, remove the cables and peel the electrical tape off the end. Place the spring from a ball point pen around the cable/connector end (ie. push the spring on the cable and wrap it around the cable). It will spiral over the cable as you twist it.

Springs from an ink pen added

Apply Mold Release to both halves of the putty mold.
Let dry and repeat for three applications.

Mix 10grams of Amazing Mold Rubber and pour into the mold cavity around the spring. Let it settle a little before pressing on the top 1/2 of the mold. I placed the first 1/2 in the vacuum to remove air bubbles before adding the top. Add the Top of the mold and secure with rubber bands. Let cure.

WHO Are You Cre8ting With??? Amazing Crafting Products and Frog Dog Studios!!!

Good Morning Amazing Crafters! Today is Sci-Fi Saturday... and our AMAZING Creative Team designer Sandra Strait has worked her magic combining Amazing Crafting Products with the January Kit from Frog Dog Studio. Included in the January Frog Dog Studio kit is a wooden mini-album from Genuinely Jane Studios in the shape of an old-fashioned telephone booth. Being an avid Doctor Who fan, Sandra immediately thought of a T.A.R.D.I.S. (Time and Relative Dimension(s) In Space). These are the ships that Time Lords use to travel time and space – and she decided to make one of her very own. You are in for a treat!

The Frog Dog Studio kit has lots of other exciting pieces too -- tissue with the names of cities printed on it, Liquitex Acrylic Inks, pleated cardstock, clear stamps, stamp-pad and assorted ephemera. Loads of goodies to play with!

Some of the ephemera caught Sandra's eye to use as panels and to create knobs.
Amazing Mold Putty to the rescue!
