Reliving Ancient Inspirations... AMAZING Inspiration by Tracy Alden

Hello! Tracy here again with another inspiration post! I am often inspired by ancient art and history, taking every opportunity to wander through museums and finding books, stirring my imagination. I am forever impressed by the craftsmanship and detail of the ancient jewelry, the ancient Egyptians were no exception. Using only simple tools they created masterpieces of art.

A popular symbol and amulet used in ancient Egypt jewelry was the scarab beetle. The scarab had many meanings, being associated with different gods, funeral aspects, special events and even used as a hieroglyph. The most popular belief was as a amulet or a pendant it would protect the wearer in this life and the next!

The winged scarab is one of my favorite forms and I wood burned one into small hinged box some years ago. This piece caught my eye recently and I wondered what it would look like as a pendant.

Carefully I made a mold of the front of the box with Amazing Mold Putty, I was able to capture the fine lines and details I had created years ago perfectly! I dusted the inside of the mold with Alumilite Gold Metallic Powder and poured Amazing Casting Resin into the mold. Then using acrylic paints I was painted some of the scarab relief, sealed it with a gloss coat and added beads. In the above photo you can see the original wood burned box on the left, a resin casting in the middle, the mold on the right and the finished pendent on the jewelry board.

While it is a large piece, being cast out of resin it is light weight, and makes a wonderful addition to a dress or a costume.

What AMAZING arts and crafts can you create???

Please share them on the NEW user GALLERY on the Amazing Mold Putty Website!
