AMAZING Faux Texture with DeeDee Catron

I really adore adding in fabrics, metals, woods and other pieces of texture and materials into my work, and generally I'm a big fan of using them like they are... BUT sometimes I like getting the look of something in completely unexpected ways.

#Cre8time to Play with FOOD!!! SPOOOOOKY Cool Jello by DeeDee Catron

AHHHH! Halloween is upon us and where I LOVE doing the paper crafts and altered portions of decor, I also ADORE doing themed foods and snacks. With a 3 year old and a 30 year old around the house they enjoy the fun things that pop up now and then, too. Insert... SPOOOOOOKY Jello! 

Did you know that Amazing Mold Putty is FOOD SAFE? As long as you've not poured resin, wax or other such materials into the mold, you can put food in it! You can even BAKE in it! (Take a look at this superb Espresso Cookie Cup!)

I sound like a salesman with all these exclamation points, but I really love the way this turned out. I found some skull shaped shot glasses and molded them half way up. After the putty was cured, I mixed up some Jello as per directions on the box and poured into my molds. Now we have jiggly Jello grape flavored skulls for the kids, and who's to say we don't add some adult beverages to the grown up versions? :D

Just a #Cre8time Dab of AMAZING... with DeeDee Catron

Hiya resin friends :)

DeeDee here today to share a little inspiration with you. Recently I've been joining in on some ATC swaps to hone some of my skills on a smaller scale. Small is not easy for me, and I'm finding this learning curve to be quite enjoyable.

It's been particularly fun bringing in some of my favorite companies that almost require a big presence, like resin and molding supplies from Amazing Crafting Products. 

Here is a set of ATCs I recently finished where the theme was as open as "buttons." If you've been following our blog long, you'll know that I love molding and casting vintage findings, more often than not detailed buttons. So if your mind went THERE, too bad! The buttons on these ATCs are actually chipboard. The resin comes in on the leaves! 

This is part of the learning process for me, and maybe it is for you, too, but I don't always have to have a BIG, GINORMOUS, IN YOUR FACE resin embellishment. Instead, on this ATC trio, I dipped my leaves in the Amazing Clear Cast Resin and then sprinkled them with glitter. I set them to the side, allowed them to cure, and then I had a glitzy little glam of an embellishment.

AMAZING Casting Resin Lion Head... HOWTO by DeeDee Catron

hi hi HI!! :)

I'm excited to be back on the Amazing Crafting Products blog. Though my small break was needed, I'm ready to be back and start inspiring again.

You may have seen this tag around recently by me. It was made for a blog hop a week or so ago, and the lion head is Amazing Casting Resin! WELL >>> there happened to be a little bit of buzz about him, and I took the opportunity to share a how-to with everyone :) .

For the tutorial and a new tag, I opted to make my lion a bit of a grungy metal dude and am super excited to share my video with you, BUT first let me show you the tag:

Amazing Mold Putty | Amazing Casting Resin 

Alumilite Dye in Black | Alumilite Metallic Powder in Gold

The top is made of some UmWowStudio gears distressed with ink, moss, Prima Marketing flowers, goggles, nest, leaves and wings, and my Lion Casting. It's all been layered up and adhered down with a heavy thick glue.

The tag base is paper from 7 Dots Studio cut with a Sizzix #8 die. It's been colored with Lindy's Stamp Gang magicals and stamped with a VLVS! rubber stamp. Two final pieces of embellishment consist of a miniature door handle and my message which reads "We All Stem From Nature." It's sort of a stab at the Steampunk genre and reminding ourselves that regardless of how many gears, how much metal, how many rivets... we're all just animals :)

A Fresh Twist on MISTS... AMAZING Inspiration by DeeDee Catron

Hey folks! Little bit o' inspiration here today by DeeDee. 

Sometimes it's great to see a new fresh take on something old and beaten. We've talked a million times on this blog about dying your resin pieces with the Alumilite Dyes, or dusting your molds with the Alumilite Metallic Powders. Well how about utilizing these to make your own spray mist!?

And we've all read tutorials on making your own spray mists using mica powders, reinkers, koolaid, Rit dye, acrylic paint and more. 

So here's a NEW FRESH equation. 

3 tablespoons water + 6 drops of Alumilite Dye + a tiny scoop o' Alumilite Metallic Powder equals the richest, deepest, most beautiful spray mist you've ever seen in your entire life. 

I used the Blue Alumilite Dye + the Silver Metallic Powder and my water to get this GORGEOUS royal blue goodness. You can see what it looks like on paper, on an Amazing Casting Resin piece, and a cast resin piece that's been dusted with Silver Metallic Powder. 

Now think about all the dyes and powders that Amazing Crafting Products carries >> SO.MANY.COMBINATIONS.

DeeDee is inventive and loves making her own items to cast/mold as well as shares our passion for finding interesting vintage goodies to press into Amazing Mold Putty. I have had the pleasure of meeting DeeDee and over the years we have become very good friends. AMAZING #Cre8time Discoveries... Resin Image Transfer by DeeDee Catron

Hiya!! DeeDee here today with a video on a little resin playing idea I had. Let me start off by saying this was a total experiment, and I'm SO GLAD I turned on the camera!! Grab the items from your supply list: Amazing Casting Resin, Measuring Cups, stir stick, non-stick kraft mat, and an image (preferably laser jet.) Then watch this beauty:

And now to show you what I did with it:

I chose to move towards an art journal page and was really excited to journal about a past life. I used the image transfer in the bottom corner, along with my Dymo Label Maker, Pitt Pen Gray, Lyra Water Color Crayon, Glimmer Mist, Viva Las VegaStamps!, UmWowStudio Chipboard and flair, 7 Dots Studio paper heart, Gauche Alchemy Washi Tape, and gel medium.

I totally adore how the image transfer turned out, and am pretty surprised by how cool it is. I can't wait to try it in Amazing Clear Cast. I'm hoping to get it thin enough and be able to turn it over for a reversed image, as well.

Forget the RULES! AMAZING Inspiration by DeeDee Catron

Hey Folks! DeeDee here today to INSPIRE you! First of all... remember last month when I used a No-Gelatin AMAZING MOLD RUBBER plate to create my background? I did it again this month! The background on my project was inked, misted, splattered, and gessoed all on the Amazing Mold Rubber plate, and then transferred to patterned paper. 

But really today is more about me telling you to forget the rules, baby! Now don't get me wrong, when it comes to resin and specifically calculated measurements and components, let's stick with the correct #s; 1:1 ratio for Amazing Casting Resin and Amazing Clear Casting Resin, etc. What I'm talking about is when it comes to making and filling a mold. 

Today specifically I'm demonstrating on only partially filling a mold. Not a double pour, or triple pour, or anything like that, but a single PARTIAL pour. Check out this tag in a trio I recently did: 

I really specifically wanted my vintage frame to look... well... VINTAGE. I wanted it to be distressed and weathered metal, sure, but I also REALLY wanted it to be BROKEN. So I dusted my mold with Alumilite Gunmetal Metallic Powder (incidentally this is an Amazing Mold Putty mold)  and mixed up my Amazing Casting Resin. As soon as my resin was completely mixed, I lightly coated the mold by pouring super slowly, while avoiding the spot that you can see missing. As the resin stared to cure in my cup I poured more, because it was thicker and flashing already, I was able to control exactly where it went.

Mold Rubber Monday {FILament by DeeDee Catron}

Hi Guys!! DeeDee here today with your weekly dose of MOLD RUBBER MONDAY! 

I almost haven't even picked up any Amazing Mold Putty since I first got my hands on Amazing Mold Rubber. And once I realized the DETAIL that the Amazing Mold Rubber could pick up, I've kind of been stuck on light bulbs and recreating their glassy smooth surfaces. 

If they seem to be getting boring or you're going "Oh, gosh, ANOTHER light bulb?" trust me when I say, you'll enjoy this tutorial. I'm focusing more on making it a bit more realistic by adding a filament through a double pour and "dirtying up" the socket insert. 

Our finished piece.

1) Gather necessary supplies: Amazing Mold Rubber Mold (I have about 6 different shaped bulb molds lying around, this one is bigger and allows for inserts inside the bulb), Amazing Clear Cast Resin, Alumilite Powder in Silver, wire. 

2) Dust the portion of the bulb that would insert into the socket with Alumilite Powder.

3) Pour part "A" of Amazing Clear Cast Resin into measuring cup.

4) Pour an equal portion of part "B" of Amazing Clear Cast Resin.

5) Stir until cloudy....

6) Keep stirring until the Amazing Clear Cast Resin clears up, it's ready!

7) Pour bulb 3/4 full. Allow to cure.

8) Using wire, create a filament shaped embellishment.

9) Adhere to bottom of 3/4 CURED bulb. Just a little dab of glue to keep it place as our soon to be 2nd pour of Amazing Clear Cast Resin cures. Do not take the bulb out of the mold.

10) Mix again equal parts "A" and "B" of Amazing Clear Cast Resin.

11) Pour bulb and allow to cure. I usually put my molds into a cupboard as they cure, it helps avoid dust and settlements on the surface.

12) Demold!! 2 things.. First> we didn't pull out our FIRST pour, and so there's no seam line where the pours meet. Second> The resin cures to itself, and looks like one big pour. YAY

13) Using a black acrylic paint cover silvery part of bulb.

14) Wipe extra from the surface and allow to dry! 

Now use your bulb! I've shared a few ways to use them now... Resin bulbs really provide a great resource, they aren't delicate and breakable like real bulbs. You've seen me use them on scrapbook layouts, on jewelry, and on tags. I've used them in Amazing Casting Resin and Amazing Clear Cast Resin. I've embossed on them, splattered them, dusted them, and embedded in them. Maybe I should tint the bulbs next? Or maybe I should just move on, LOL.

"For the LOVE Of" my DIY No-Gelatin Printing Plate... AMAZING Inspiration by DeeDee Catron

Hi Folks! DeeDee here today, inspiring you with a layout and one GIANT Amazing Mold Rubber PLATE. If you need a bit of a refresher course, check back to Susan's post about creating your own heavy duty long lasting printing plate from Amazing Mold Rubber. Basically.... it's a plate or slab of a non-stick surface on which you create patterns and textures using paints, mists, inks, and other colorants that are then transferred or "Mono-printed" to a sheet of paper. Today, I've followed Susan's example but made my plate 12 1/4" x 12 1/4" to accommodate patterned paper for scrapbooking. I used the plate to help create the background on this layout here :

Please be aware, the paper on the bottom did start patterned. It's a sheet of paper from 7 Dots Studio. I just enhanced it and made it my own by printing on top. I've used gesso and glimmer mist on the plate.

Other supplies include: Viva Las VegaStamps! (Coffee Ring Stamp,) UmWowStudio (Circle Confetti Stencil, Chipboard Butterfly, Heart Confetti,) May Arts, Prima, Gauche Alchemy, adhesive and thread.

I'm loving working on a plate, then to paper, rather than directly on paper, because if I mess up (and I tend to) I can just wipe the rubber plate off. If I had been working directly on paper and ended up being not happy, I'd have to trash it and start over.
