Plastic Toys Get a New #Cre8time Leash on Life... by Isabel Villarreal

Hi there crafters! I originally started making these as cute and kitschy dog art for friends and then realized they would make amazingly adorable leash organizers. I personalized mine by painting them to look like my friends' pets.

My first step was to cut the toys in half. I wouldn't be using the entire piece, just the front half.

The next step was to make a mold box. I used advertising flyers to make mine. I secured the original pieces to the bottom of the box using hot glue. For these dogs I decided to use Amazing Mold Rubber because they are fairly small and have lots of detail. Since the Mold Rubber starts as a thick liquid, it gets into the smallest areas to pick up really remarkable detail.

My Amazing Mold Rubber set in about 2 hours. Setting time really depends on the temperature and humidity in your area. I molded 2 pieces in the same mold box so I used a sharp knife to cut the 2 molds apart and then each mold in half so that I would have a 2-part mold. I used a piece of elastic and a pin to keep the 2 pieces tightly fitted while I poured my resin.

   

Using Amazing Casting Resin I filled the molds and waited about 15 minutes for it to set. The 2-part mold makes it easier to remove the cured resin casting from the mold. Here you can see my results.

   

Now to paint my resin pieces. I used acrylic paint to add colors and details to my dogs. I bought a couple of wood plaques from my local craft store to use as the back board. A few pencil marks and drill holes later, I had the perfect backs for my doggies. The resin dogs would also need to be drilled in the back of each piece.

With a little paint my plaques were transformed. I used a screw to attach the dogs to the boards and added a wall hook.

The final pieces are cute enough to grace your wall as 3D dog art, and they also hold your leashes! I will probably coat the entire thing in a thin layer of Clear Cast, just to be sure the dogs don't get damaged from daily use.

Molded Lace Makes a Wearable Statement... by Isabel Villarreal

Everyone loves statement jewelry and this necklace made from molded lace definitely makes a statement! Lately I've been seeing accessories made from lace and I decided to try my hand at creating something for myself. I originally tried to use a lace piece for my necklace but it was a little too droopy so I figured I would mold it and cast it. This started out as an experiment but the results were so amazing I had to share! Follow along to see how to make a stunning statement piece for yourself.

   

I started with a nice lace piece that I trimmed down until I was satisfied with the shape. I mixed up some Amazing Mold Putty and using a rolling pin, I flattened the putty to fit the size of the lace and then rolled the lace piece into the putty face down. CLICK HERE to view mixing/preparation.

The resulting mold is very shallow, but this way the final piece will be thin and light enough to wear comfortably. I got a great impression from the lace with some really great detail.

The next step was to add some color with Alumidust pigment powders. I used some small brushes to coat the mold using a variety of colors to bring out the intricate design and leaving some areas with no pignment so that they would be clear. 

To fill the mold I mixed a batch of Amazing Clear Cast Resin {CLICK HERE to view mixing/preparation}. I filled the mold very carefully to try to avoid any over spill since the mold is so shallow. While the resin was still wet I sprinkled iridescent glitter along the entire surface. 

The resin was pretty thin and being that I live in South Florida, the temperature was pretty nice so it was dry to the touch in about 8 hours. I carefully released it from the mold while it was still a little soft so that I could trim away any unwanted areas and smooth out the edges. 

The resin piece was beautiful on its own. The original lace piece has sequins and embroidered edges and you can see that the resin piece picked up all of the beautiful details perfectly!

These pictures show the back of the piece, which I covered in glitter and the front of the piece to show the results. It has sort of a watercolor feel that works well with the floral theme. 

The front of the piece has color but if you look you can see the way the glitter shows through the color to give it dimension. 

  

To finish the piece I coated it with a super thin layer of Amazing Clear Cast Resin to smooth out the surface and added some crystals to bring out the details. Once the crystals were set I used my Crop-A-Dile to make a couple of holes in the resin in just the right place so it would hang at an angle from around my neck and used sterling jump rings to hang it from a fine Silver chain.

Honor Love and Unity with a #Cre8time Wearable Rainbow... by Isabel Villarreal

February is for love and to celebrate it I made this using a bezel bracelet from The Bottle Cap Co. There's a rainbow of color in this simple but gorgeous bracelet. Each bezel is filled with bright, glittery resin in honor of love and unity. 

With Amazing Clear Cast Resin and Alumilite Dyes, making colorful and fun jewelry pieces is super easy. Just a drop of color (it really doesn't take much) mixed into the resin can give you truly vibrant, beautiful color that will bring your creations to life.

I started with a few drops of color in each bezel then added a clear top layer to create a dome and finish each bezel. I used a mixture of regular and Fluorescent Alumilite Dyes to create this rainbow bracelet. A dash of iridescent glitter added to each color gave it a great visual boost. Each bezel is like a little galaxy of stars and color and really captures light in amazing ways.

#CHA2015 RECAP... AMAZING Cookie Cutter Snow Globe by Isabel Villarreal

Hi everyone! This is Isabel and for last month's post I made a snow globe bracelet and I was so happy with it that I decided to try making something similar on a larger scale. (You can see my last post for in-depth instructions on making a snow globe - CLICK HERE). This time, I used a different method to make the "globe" and it made this faster and simpler and I'd like to share it with you.

I actually made two of these and the other one {which had a gem studded heart in the center} was on display in the Amazing Crafting Products/Alumilite Corp. Booth #1427 at the Winter 2015 Craft and Hobby Association Mega Show!

Did you see it???

Start with a cookie cutter and use hot glue to create a seal around the bottom edge. I glued it to the shiny side of a piece of packing tape. Then pour a thin layer of Amazing Clear Cast Resin inside the cookie cutter. 

When the Amazing Clear Cast Resin dries punch a hole into the side of the cookie cutter. I used a Crop-A-Dile to punch mine. The hole should be wherever you figure the top will be on your cutter. What's the hole for? 

Wait for it....

Flip the cookie cutter over onto the other edge and seal with hot glue. The hole in cookie cutter will allow you to use a dropper to inject a thin layer of Amazing Clear Cast Resin to create a hollow shape from a cookie cutter. It also gives you good access for filling your hollow shape.

  

After it dried I poured a thin layer of Amazing Clear Cast Resin with a few drops of Alumilite White Dye and a dash of Alumilite Pearlescent powder to one side of the star.

After filling the star and sealing the hole, I wrapped a plaid ribbon around the entire shape and it was done in just a few steps, this time around. These cookie cutter snow globes make a great little gift or ornament, or make a few for yourself!
