A Key to #Cre8time... DIY Key Holder by Brenda Burfeind

Good day all! Brenda here from Creativity is a State of Mind and today I'm hoping to inspire you to make your own skeleton key holder.

My inspiration comes from a key holder our son made when he was in middle school many, many years ago... and we've used it ever since. While this has worked for us for many years – it never hung straight depending on how many keys we had. I honestly don't even know what all these keys are for. Maybe I'll make something with all the extras – LOL! 

Last week my hubby said, "we should get a new one and give the old key holder to our son since he owns his own home now. I'll put a new hanger on the back before I give it to him (or maybe not)". But that's when inspiration started to form in my creative head!

At the time, I was actually in the middle of pouring some molds for another project. Whenever I am pouring molds, I usually mix more resin than I need, so I'll pull out some extra molds out to use up any remaining resin (you can see mixing instructions here). I started with these molds made from some vintage skeleton keys I own. You can view a YouTube video HERE to see how to create your own molds using Amazing Mold Putty. 

This batch of keys cast with Amazing Casting Resin and Alumilite Dyes are not exactly skeleton key colors, but...

with acrylic paint anything can be transformed!

I also used a little bit of the copper Alumidust just by simply putting my finger in the jar and rubbing it all over the keys. Voila!

I used E6000® to glue the faux resin skeleton keys in the shape of a "K" onto a reclaimed wood board painted with black acrylic paint. I used picture hangers as the hooks for the real keys and distressed them with some of the black acrylic paint mixed with a little bit of copper Alumidust. 

I sprayed a couple of coats of clear acrylic over the entire board to seal it and give the resin skeleton keys a little shine. This also helps the acrylic paint stay on the hooks. 

After that was dried my Silhouette Cameo came in handy to cut out the "eys" in a copper colored vinyl, then transferred them to the "K" made with my resin skeleton keys.

Now we have a new key holder and my son

can now enjoy the one he made in middle school.

#Cre8time Transformations... from Resin Castoffs to Amazing Adornments by Aimée Wheaton

Is it a jar topper or a funky little tree?!! Who knows? The options are endless when you keep your castoffs and use them in unconventional ways. I started rummaging through my box of castoffs and had to think outside the box for something to create and came up with this little idea.

I will say first off I created all these pieces over time, they were made from mixing equal parts of Amazing Casting Resin that I mixed too much of. Some were dyed with Alumilite Dyes and others were just left white.

The only non-resin piece is the wooden tree shaped item. I took my hot glue gun and glued them all together with the wood piece being on top.

Here it is all glued. Next I took some gold acrylic and painted the whole thing. I added silver glitter while it was wet.

  

I had this fleur-de-lis that wasn't in the best shape, so I added some glue and then sprinkled it with purple glitter, then glued it to the front of the stacked golden tree.

So pretty!! Makes a perfect topper for my stash of vintage buttons!

Here's another idea for you!

I took another castoff that I had created... drilled a hole in the top to loop wire through and started painting! Again this was created with a dyed resin castoff.

Where this piece started from – a violet dyed resin heart.

To this I added different colors of acrylic paint.

  

I added some glitter and this little amazing pendant I created with Amazing Clear Cast Resin and glitter. I also hot glued an antique button in the center of the heart.

I'm glad I kept all of these castoffs and trinkets.

I really liked how they turned out!!

#Cre8time to Remember our Veterans... by Brenda Burfeind

Good day crafters! Brenda here and today I want to share a little thank you card I put together for Veteran's Day... in my favorite "patriotic" theme. Do you recognize a little something?! I created the embellishments for this using the resin paper I made for my 4th of July windchime {in case you missed it, CLICK HERE to pop over and take a peek}.

Using Amazing Clear Cast Resin, I turned a paper table cloth into resin paper – then used Art-C dies to cut out the shapes. I added a bit of ribbon, cardstock and a matching napkin for the background! Easy-peasy!

#Cre8time Beachcombing... Preserve Seaside Keepsakes in Miniature Tide Pools by Lara Hjorthoy

Hi Artists! Today's "how-to" is inspired by an artist I ran into recently. He creates these stunning glass and concrete sculptures, where the glass looks like water... just gorgeous! I wanted to try my hand at what resin could do!

So for today, I'm making Personal Tidal Pools!

As a Girl from Vancouver, BC, the West Coast of Canada sports some seriously beautiful beaches, and my goal for these little pools was to capture some of that!

So to start off with I found myself a fairly generic silicone muffin "tin". I got one from a local cooking shop as the ones I found in the thrift store looked a little worse for wear, and I really wanted a smooth cast!

Next, Hubbs and I went to the beach!!! I collected handfuls of dry sand, handfuls of cool rocks, used shells and bits of interesting wood! 

   

When I got home, and before I went too far, I decided to sculpt some mini starfish and barnacles out of Sculpey, and then mold those with Amazing Mold Putty! Since they were so tiny, I just pressed the putty out wide and flat and in no time I had a great mold! Later I cast all these guys using Amazing Casting Resin and some glow in the dark powder!

I think it's important to explain the mistakes that happened – I would hate for anyone to think I hit pay dirt right off the bat!

So what I did, was mix up some of the sand I collected with acrylic polymer medium, and THAT I wouldn't do again. Main reason? I don't think the medium was a strong enough bond with the sand and eventually the resin, so it got flaky and fell apart in the end. ALSO, I didn't leave this step long enough -or- it might have been that my rocks were not completely dried out inside which may have introduced moisture back into the sand. Next time, if I go the sand route again, I will try something different. So even though my resin eventually set super fast, the sand didn't, which was the contributing factor to the whole, falling apart thing.

Anywho... I WAS successful eventually, so bare with me!

I did let this stage set for 24 hours and when I touched the top it appeared hard and set, so I went ahead a mixed up the Amazing Clear Cast Resin. I wanted a slight tint to the resin, as I thought it might be a cooler look then simply just clear, and here is my second mistake! Using a drop of blue and two drops of fluorescent green into my resin part "A", the dye was SOOOO DARK!!!

Alumilite dyes are so powerful and such a very very little is actually needed! Lesson learned, so the top three in photo are the super dark dye, they didn't work – unless I was going for a tide pool at night. The two up front used the last of the dye in the container and I didn't add any more to it. It was a lovely light blue. Those were mostly successful!

After letting them set for another 24 hours, I finally removed them from the mold. The resin popped out beautifully. However the sand didn't set properly in these and kind of fell apart a bit. Bit of a bummer but left me thinking....

So my last try, I skipped the sand, used some flatter rocks to create a "bed" in the bottom of one mold, added some nice shaped and interesting colored rocks, some bits of wood, my glow in the dark casts of starfish and barnacles. Made sure when I poured the resin this time, I used a teeeeeeensy tiny amount of dye and poured.

After a day, here is the final result! A successful Personal Tide Pool – and it glows in the dark... so cool!!! The back two pictured are the not super successful ones from my first try. But they weren't terrible either, so they deserved a look!

Take a #Cre8time Carousel Ride... Sparkly Resin Ponies by Lyn Gill

Hello again! Lyn Gill here and I was inspired this week by some paper ponies I saw... I just knew I could make them in resin!

In this project I used the Amazing Remelt and I think I really put it through it's paces. I molded it in a foam board box (paper lined foam board) and I made the horse pattern from a recycled box glued to fun foam... of course I used plenty of mold release. 

When I poured the Amazing Remelt in and let it set up, I was surprised at how easy it actually was to remove. I used some Amazing Clear Cast Resin with various Alumilite Dyes and Alumidust with a touch of glittered embossing powder to make these adorable ponies!

These would make such a cute piece of wall art or hanging from the bottom of some wind chimes. Or maybe on a princesses door! They're so fun and so easy to create!

Dragonflies Embellish my #Cre8time Garden... by Brenda Burfeind

Happy Spring! Brenda here from Creativity is a State of Mind. I've been wanting to decorate for Spring and today is some inspiration for just that. I love to play with my Amazing Casting Products. I find that you are not limited to using a mold solely for that mold's purpose.

What I mean is... play, play, play!

Think outside the box. Just because a mold has a

certain shape doesn't mean you need to use it as is.

For instance, recently I made my granddaughter an "art" holding frame. I had purchased these awesome fan blades made out of wood. I even added one of my previous resin pieces cast using one of my Amazing Mold Rubber molds – the princess crown embellishment {you can view that post HERE}.

When I craft I am all over the place. While I'm creating one project, I'm already thinking of something else to do...

With that being said, I was thinking of dragonflies. I've seen Pinterest features of dragonflies made out of ceiling fan blades and spindles. While they are super cute – I don't have any fan blades nor do I have large space to hang these beautiful pieces.

There I was already thinking ahead –

Well this is what I created...

Wooden fan blades cut in half molded with Amazing Mold Putty

I filled each with Alumilite Violet Dye mixed with Amazing
Casting Resin {CLICK HERE to view mixing/preparation}.

Love how the Amazing Mold Putty picked up the woodgrain detail. When your resin isn't cured all the way yet and it's still pliable, you can cut it with scissors or a blade.

 

I just cut each section in half again and

glued them to a dowel that I had painted.

I added some plastic beads to make a head and some wire to give it some bling. I also glued beads on the body and wings to make it fun and sparkly. Now I have some miniature dragonflies and I plan on making a bunch of these to hang on my fence around my deck.

I hope I've inspired you to find a new use for

a mold and have fun creating (playing).
