How does your #Cre8time Garden Grow... Amazing Inspiration from Susan M. Brown {sbartist}

Hello Everyone... Susan here sharing some amazing inspiration... an upcycled mixed media project full of sunshine using Amazing Casting Products!

This project is a compilation of bits of this and that on my craft room table inspired by some castings of a house created from an embroidery kit frame molded using Amazing Mold Putty. I had one of these in a baggy with some scraps of papers, embellishments and ribbon – seems like a perfect time to do some Cre8time SPRING cleaning!

I monoprinted a pattern onto a leftover section of muslin fabric using my Amazing No-Gelatin Rubber Plate impressed with large bubble wrap into the white paint to make a nice muted sky background. To this I add some stamped foilage and stencil sprayed sunrays, then begin layering my assortment of ephemera, trim, gems and dimensional items.

I cut a section of painted patterned paper to fit behind my cast resin house. Inside a cast resin domino with sticky back gems for window {molded in Amazing Mold Rubber cast in Amazing Casting Resin}, a mini metal bicycle charm, green burlap trim, and pen doodling make this house a home... topped off with a green gingham bow! With the addition of a pearled flower as a "sun"... this sunny garden scene is complete!

Frosty in a #Cre8time Winter Wonderland... by Michele Kosciolek

Holiday crafting is my FAVORITE! And in Michigan winter is a holiday! Michele here today to share some wintery molding fun!

I used Amazing Mold Rubber and Amazing Casting Resin for the snowman in this festive lantern. I started with a ceramic ornament and molded it in Amazing Mold Rubber. First, I need to build a moldbox...

I hot glued him to the lid of the rubber container.

  

Next, I used some cardboard from a box I received some crafty goodness in to create my mold box. I created a cylinder shape and secured with tape – leaving at least 1/4" around all sides of the snowman original.

Make sure you seal completely around the bottom. 

I used hot glue to seal the box to the lid.

Mix container of Amazing Mold Rubber according to the directions {CLICK HERE to view mixing/preparation}.

And pour until whatever you are casting is completely covered. Set aside to cure.

After the rubber is cured, gently peel away the mold box.

Pull item from mold. If needed, carefully slit down the side of the mold with a blade so you can remove what you molded.

To prepare mold for resin casting, I used rubber bands

around the mold to make sure I had a good seal.

Then filled with Amazing Casting Resin

In about 15 minutes the snowman is cured and ready to remove from mold! Can you see all that texture??!

I used my Copic markers to do some coloring.

Add a little snow and a tree with lights...

and a cute little deer to complete the scene.

And viola! A cute wintery scene!

A perfect little place for Frosty to spend the winter!!!

Three #Cre8time cheers for #CarveDecember... Amazing Inspiration by Susan M. Brown {sbartist}

Hello everyone! Susan here with an AMAZING idea using Amazing Mold Rubber. I have been waiting all year to test out this idea and to share for "Carve December 2017" – a month long celebration online dedicated to 31 days of hand carved stamps using #CarveDecember dreamt up by Julie Fei-Fan Balzer author of "Carve Stamp Play".

I ruined several of my mold putty molds back last December filling them with mold rubber with the intention of using them as stamps... I  FORGOT to use a MOLD RELEASE – so I have several wonky looking yellow/pink paper weights. Inspired from watching all the amazing creative hand-carved stamps, I put these rubber blobs aside and saved them for trials with stamp carving.

So CarveDecember is 4 days in and I am dying to carve something and today's test is on the backside of one of my molds! HERE we go!

All I need is a mold with a pristine flat backside or a slab poured from Amazing Mold Rubber, a Speedball stamp carving tool, a scrap of paper and an ink pad! For my first carve I used a small rectangle of the speedball carving rubber. It's a bit stiff and will require some practice to get the hang of detailed carving. I did this to see how carving the mold rubber compared to the traditional carving media.

The mold rubber is much softer and more pliable in comparison, and doesn't require as much pressure to carve into. I have loads of molds piled up with blank canvases for carving {or for fun monoprinting shapes}. This mold is about 2 1/2" in diameter. I have divided this into a quad and I have carved two designs so far – a wonky mosaic and a curved design sort of like a rainbow.

From the Witch's #Cre8time Cupboard... by Lyn Gill

Happy Halloween everyone! Lyn here again bringing you a fun Halloween charm just in time for your big event!

I crafted the original skull from Super Sculpey and baked it until cured (according to package directions). To prepare for molding I glued it down to the bottom of a disposable plastic cup with my hot glue gun. Then I mixed a small amount of Amazing Mold Rubber according to package directions (CLICK HERE to view mixing/preparation), and then slowly poured it into the cup – covering up the skull by about a 1/2''. I set aside to let cure overnight.

After de-molding my original it is ready to fill mold with some Amazing Casting Resin. After mixing equal amounts of Parts "A" and "B", stir until swirls and cloudiness are gone, then pour into the mold. Let this cure for 10 to 20 minutes before de-molding. CLICK HERE to view mixing/preparation.

While the molded resin piece is still "soft", I screwed in a screw eye to make a charm out of the skull. Then using some Black acrylic paint, I painted the whole skull and quickly (while it was still wet), wiped it back off – leaving it with an antiqued finish. 

I think it looks kinda creepy sitting on my handmade

#Cre8time Halloween Decorations... Fabulous Faux Eygyptian Scarabs by Tanya Ruffin

I wanted to make dozens of scarabs for Halloween decorations, but I didn't realize how much resin would be involved until I started. So I have devised a way to make an original in resin and then make copies of it using plaster and sand.

Things you'll need for this project:

• Found object to use as body of scarab
• Air dry clay
• Amazing Mold Rubber
• Amazing Casting Resin
• Alumilite Black Dye
• Interference Green Alumidust
• Hot glue gun
• Playground sand (I used a 50 lb package – approx. $5.00)
• Plaster
• Large box for sand
• Small box to use for mold

Steps:

1.) First create your original.

I found a Transformers toy in the close-out section that came in a cool egg shape. I used the egg shape as the back of the scarab. I used air dry clay to sculpt the rest of the body. The legs are very delicate so it I had to make them thick enough so they wouldn't break when dry. The scarab is 7 inches long and 5 inches wide.

2.) Create a mold.

I then used a small cardboard box to be the base of my mold. I hot glued the scarab in the bottom of the box and mixed up the Amazing Mold Rubber and poured {CLICK HERE to view mixing/preparation}. 

The mold came out great!

3.) Make a casting in resin.

Now to pour some Amazing Casting Resin {CLICK HERE to view mixing/preparation}. I originally thought I would be making dozens of these in resin, but then realized how much resin I would end up needing. Sorry, but I have more crafty things to make with my resin! 

So I cast just one to use as as a decoration. I mixed Alumilite Black Dye with the Amazing Casting Resin and used some cool Alumidust on the shell... this Interference Green is awesome!!!

So you may be asking – why not just pour the plaster in the rubber mold? Well, to get plaster out of the mold you pull back the mold and you get this... 

Unfortunately the plaster is too fragile and the legs broke off as I removed it from the mold. 

4.) Make many from one.

So I came up with another way. I will use sand to serve as a mold and pour the plaster into that. To get the plaster out of the sand you just brush away the sand. So I ran down to the building supply store and bought a 50lb bag of playground sand for a whooping $5.00. 

**TIP** also buy your plaster at the building supply store {not at the craft store} it is way cheaper.

I had an old box that a dozen glasses came in so I put a garbage bag inside and dumped in the sand. Then add some water so that the sand will stick to itself and pat it down to make a flat surface.

Press your object {I used the piece cast from Amazing Casting Resin} into the sand and gently pull it out. If the side walls collapse, then you need to add some more water to the sand. Repeat to make as many that will fit in sand box leaving ample space between each.

Then mix up your plaster and pour into each void. Wait for plaster to harden.

And then... Tada!!!

The legs were rather fragile being cast in plaster, so I poured it thicker and that is why there are more places that need clean up. These will embellish a wall in an Egyptian haunted house, so I am not too concerned about them being perfect.

The thing I love is the sand that is embedded in the hardened plaster. It looks like an ancient relic of sorts.

A Nightmare AFTER Christmas... AMAZING Inspiration from Lara Hjorthoy

Hi Friends! It's Lara here to share some inspiration with you... how about a Nightmare Before (or is it, after?) Christmas themed art?!!!

I am super excited to share this with you! I have a show coming up in a Gallery in Portugal, called Penumbra Gallery. And being such a fan of Nightmare, as I know all the Amazing Ladies of Amazing Casting Products Team are, I was thrilled to be accepted into the "A Night at the Movies" show! 

I sculpted my version of Zero in Sculpey {polymer clay} and then cast a mold of him in Amazing Mold Rubber, then used Amazing Clear Cast Resin to cast up my sculpture of Zero, wth a bit of PearlEx Iridescent Blue Powder added into the mix. I painted him up using oil paint, and of course added a glow-in-the-dark Sculpey nose! Presto! A glittery, translucent, ghostly Zero, heading out on a long journey to Portugal! Have a safe trip Zero!

For the Love of #Cre8time Recycling... DIY Art Molds by Tracy Alden

Hello! Tracy here to share some inspiration using Amazing Casting Products! Notice the interesting resin tiles and the Amazing Mold Rubber molds? Curious on how I made them? Let me introduce one of my favorite sources for inspiration... my recycling bin. Seriously, some of my best pieces of artwork gets inspiration from objects many people think has no value!

Here is a small selection from my recycling bin from this past month. What these objects all have in common is the potential to become a mold, texture or embellishment for a piece of art. I could mold the side of the light bulb to create a dome pendant, those trays can be bases for printing plates, the bottom of bottles and lids make great molds for embellishments, many pieces can be cut up or glued together to make mixed media projects! 

Grabbing just one type of recyclables, in this case a plastic spacer most likely from some sort of packaging, I noticed it had a great shape. Smooth on three sides, even in shape and thick enough to create a mold with depth for layers.

I glued the spacers into a plastic sushi tray {also from my recycling bin}, which made the perfect mold box! Carefully following the instructions, I mixed up a kit of Amazing Mold Rubber and slowly poured it into my mold box. CLICK HERE to view mixing/preparation. In the process of mixing, the Amazing Mold Rubber had formed bubbles. To quickly pop the bubbles I used a heat gun to slowly heat the uncured mold rubber to pop the bubbles.

**You can use either Amazing Mold Rubber or Amazing Mold Putty for creating molds from recyclables. Mold Putty will create a matte to satin finish (food safe!) mold and Mold Rubber will create high gloss and detail (non food safe) mold.

Once the Amazing Mold Rubber was completely cured I removed the plastic pieces from the tray. When I gently removed the pieces from the Mold Rubber they came out rather cleanly, requiring very little trimming of the mold rubber with craft scissors. Now don't think I threw away that tray or bits of plastic! They get saved for a future project or at the very least go back into the recycling bin!

I went ahead tested out my molds and used Amazing Clear Cast Resin mixed with pressed flowers, glitters, alcohol inks, beads, Alumidust powder and Alumilite Dye. Happy with my results I can use these molds for things besides resin such as clay, paper mache, embossing powder and more. 

So many objects normally only thought of as recycling can be repurposed to create molds for your art... and the creative possibilities are endless!
