A #Cre8time Spelling Game that's SO AMAZING...
by Susan M. Brown {sbartist}

Hello Amazing Crafters! I am the type of crafter that dabbles in all kinds of creative play and I'm always on the lookout for stray game pieces to recycle into projects... especially letters. Recently at a family gathering, my dear MIL brought out her scrabble game to start up a game. She has a fancy version of the game with pretty burgundy colored wooden alphabet tiles – you know what I was thinking right??! I have to mold these!!! So she let me borrow them so I could do just that.

Now molding Scrabble tiles is nothing new here and I can recall a few projects here on the Amazing Casting Products blog using them with Amazing Mold Putty. But I want to mold the whole alphabet so I'm enlisting my Amazing Mold Rubber – which will help me mold them all at once and give me extreme detail, even from these tiny tiles. Thanks to ideas on Pinterest... finding these at thrift stores or yard sales is near impossible where I live – Scrabble tiles are a hot commodity.

First I selected all the tiles to get one of each letter, a couple blanks, and then chose a few letters for duplicates {vowels and for spelling double letter words}. I prepared my trusty recycled packaging/mold box with a new layer of 3M spray adhesive.

I placed all the tiles in my mold box pressing firmly into the tacky spray adhesive, leaving about 1/4" between each square and clearance from edges of moldbox.

I mixed up an entire Amazing Mold Rubber kit to pour my letter tile mold, and any remaining will go to help fill another mold in the works. CLICK HERE to view mixing/preparation.

I poured the Amazing Mold Rubber gently between and over the tiles, completely covering them all by about 1/8" to the top of my makeshift moldbox. I watched for any trapped airbubbles, and kept a close eye on any tiles trying to swim away until about a 1/2 hour passed. Two looked like the corners were poking up, so I pressed them back down and thought they would stay put. After the coast was seemingly clear, I headed off to bed for the night.

Look what greeted me this morning??! Arrrrgggghhhh! LOL!

This is why it's important to GLUE your items to the mold box. My spray adhesive method works pretty good and this is the first time anything got away on me. But these tiles are lightweight and I can see how the strength of the liquid silicone could set it free. Luckily it is one of the letters I put twice, so I can just chuckle at the random square on the back of my mold.

Time for the mold reveal... AMAZING as always!

Using detail scissors, I gently trim away any fringe of silicone that had oozed under the tiles and I am ready to cast some letters.

Look at the AMAZING detail! The letters are perfect and the woodgrain in the tiles is perfectly rendered as well. I select a few letters to spell out and dust them with some Light Purple Alumidust using a paintbrush.

I prepare a batch of Amazing Casting Resin – approximately 1 oz. of each of parts "A" and "B". CLICK HERE to view mixing/preparation.

I added some of the same Light Purple Alumidust into my mixing cup to tint the resin.

I pour the prepared Amazing Casting Resin into my selected letters, then poured the remaining resin into other letters and also another mold I grabbed just in case there was extra.

I am always so excited to see the the end result. One thing I have to learn is patience to pour resin in smaller items. It's better to make smaller batches of Amazing Casting Resin and pour slowly – large mixed batches heat up really quick which makes the curing faster... and you have to pour in a hurry. As a result, I overpoured a couple of my tiles, but can be fixed with a little filing.

Otherwise, they came out fantastic! The pearlescent purple is gorgeous.

What fun items would you cast

Harry Potter INSPIRATION... AMAZING Fan Jewelry with Rachel Whetzel

If you are a true Potterhead (That's the word, you know. For a nutso Harry Potter geek like myself.) then there are two things you already know.

2. Always.

So this Christmas, I had a fellow Potterhead in my soon to be Daughter In Law... and I knew that I could make the perfect gift for her.

I used my favorite, the ever easy to use Scrabble tile, and because I am a sucker for details, I used a 'W' tile... and let the W show on the back. Then I glued some scrapbook paper on the front, after I had used one of my vintage typewriters to type 'Always' on it, and drawn the deathly hallows symbol too. Then I covered the whole thing in Amazing Clear Cast Resin, and used the resin to attach a bezel to the back for hanging. I loved the way it came out, and it had very special meaning for me and my new daughter to be.

Making her necklace a custom box to nest in was fun too! I knew I'd find a use for the wooden french cheese box I found at the thrift store!!

Clearly, This is Love...? AMAZING tutorial by
Rachel Whetzel

Last month, I shared the Necklace Piece that I made with Amazing Mold Putty, Scrabble Tiles, and Amazing Clear Cast Resin. I mentioned that I made my mold with some of the tiles facing the opposite direction as I wanted them for THAT project, because I was working on a second project with the same mold. Today, I'm going to show you that SECOND project!

To create your piece like this, you'll need the following:

• Scrabble tiles that form a word

• A cool piece of art work for the back of your tile (I used vintage dictionary pages)

• Crafter's Pick the Ultimate Glue (or whatever your favorite is)

Let's get started! First, choose some scrabble pieces to use... I am using tiles that spell "LOVE".

Mix equal parts of Amazing Mold Putty and prepare it for molding. Next, place the pieces for this project letter side down in your mold, and let the mold set. I pushed my pieces in deep to make my cast pieces thicker. Please CLICK HERE for more detailed instructions.

Once your mold is set, mix Amazing Clear Cast Resin in equal parts, and pour into your mold. Let it set up before removing the pieces. You can see the letter "L" in the top right corner of the mold in this picture. Please CLICK HERE for more detailed instructions on mixing and preparing Amazing Clear Cast Resin.

Once your resin has cured, pop out your pieces, and use paint to fill in the lettering of your tiles. Then back them with your photo or paper.

I chose to use the definitions of words that describe LOVE to back my letters.

Then I coated both sides of the tiles with more
Amazing Clear Cast Resin to create a shiny, clear tile.

I'll be using these on a mixed media piece for sure!!
I love this new twist on the scrabble tile idea!

Can you think of other things YOU would
do with clear scrabble tiles?

Amazing Scrabble Piece Necklace... by Rachel Whetzel

Hello!! It's Rachel! Here to share with you my idea to use Scrabble Tiles to create a clear square to make necklace pieces with!

To create your piece like this, you'll need the following:

•  A scrabble tile

•  A cool piece of art work for the back of your tile

•  Crafter's Pick the Ultimate Glue (or whatever your favorite is)

•  Jewelry making bits

Let's get started! First, choose some scrabble pieces to use... I have another project to try, so I choose the letters I wanted for that project, and two tiles for this project.

Mix equal parts Amazing Mold Putty and prepare it for molding. Next, place the pieces for this project letter side up in your mold, and let the mold set. I pushed my pieces in deep to make my cast pieces thicker.

Once your mold is set, mix Amazing Clear Cast Resin in equal parts, and pour into your mold. Let it set up before removing the pieces.

When your pieces are finished, you'll notice that one side is more shiny than the other. Don't worry about this, because in the end, it won't matter. Sand down the edges of your piece, and prepare it for glue.

Find a cool piece of art work, and glue your piece to it. I used a page from Gauche Alchemy's Ephemera Variety pack.

Once your glue is dry, mix a very tiny amount of Amazing Clear Cast Resin and use a Qtip to apply a layer over your cube. I made myself a mat with Amazing Mold Putty to keep any drips from sticking to the surface my piece was curing on.

I applied Amazing Clear Cast Resin to both sides, (allowing cure time for both sides) to help make my piece water proof. Remember the mention of the cloudy cure above? To avoid that on your finished piece, make sure that all your resin cures with air touching it. The cloudy finish of a cast is happens only on areas that are touching a surface while they cure. Covering your piece one side at a time, will create a piece with a glossy finish on all sides. It also makes your piece WATER PROOF!

I used more Amazing Clear Cast Resin to set my jewelry onto my piece, and hung it all on some ball chain.

If you create something inspired by my project, please leave a comment with a link here, so I can come and visit to see! I would love for you to visit me at my "house" too!! Thank you so much for reading!! ~ rachel
