An AMAZING #Cre8time Reveal... the Hidden Beauty of Petoskey Stones

Beauty in nature is found most everywhere... even in hidden places. This is true of Petoskey stones, which are found in Michigan and the upper Great Lakes region. This fossilized coral has a unique geometric pattern that is revealed when wet.

While these stones can be polished to bring out it's beautiful designs – we've found an easier way! By coating stones with a thin layer of Amazing Clear Cast Resin, you can achieve a wet-stone look that reveals each stones unique pattern.

Watch to see more of this amazing process...

**A few TIPS** After applying resin, you'll want to cover stones while curing to prevent dust from settling on the surface. After curing you may have a small puddle of cured resin on the backside of the stones. This can be repaired by sanding that part down, then applying a thin coat of Amazing Clear Cast Resin over the sanded area and allow to cure again overnight. The resin can also be applied using a foam brush or cosmetic sponges.

Enjoy your beautiful coated stones! The Petoskey stones reveal their inner beauty with this easy faux-polishing technique... ready to use in handmade jewelry and other handmade creations.

This technique can be used with other stones to bring out their hidden beauty... like this pendant featuring a triangular stone created by Rachel Whetzel.

What would you embellish with resin?

Read All About It!! Casting with ReMARKable Detail in Amazing Mold Rubber by Melissa Johnson

Good morning everyone! Today I am sharing a fun bookmark that I created using Amazing Mold Rubber, which I have to say is pretty darn amazing! It cures so quickly (well, here in Texas!).

To begin, I wanted to cast a few antique crystals that I bought last summer at an antiques show. I mixed the mold rubber and glued down my pieces using a heavy duty glue dot {CLICK HERE to view mixing/preparation}. I used the lid of an container of beads as the mold box.

When the mold was completely cured, I pulled the original pieces out.

I decided to use the larger of the crystals for this particular project, so I mixed up some Amazing Clear Cast Resin and poured it into the mold. When that had cured, I painted it with a very thin layer of Golden paint in cobalt blue and drilled a small hole in the top. The detail is amazing!

I also had a small key laying around and since there was some extra resin, I found a bezel in my stash and laid down a scrap piece along with the key and poured the resin over it all.

While that was curing, I found a piece of ribbon in my stash and using the Alumilite Dye in Blue, I mixed up a few drops along with some water and some alcohol. The alcohol was actually an accident. :) It was still in my mini spray bottle I keep on my desk from a previous project.

I dipped the ribbon in the mixture and let it soak in.
Then I pulled it out, balled it up, and dried it with a heat gun.

To finish, I assembled all of the pieces (adding in a metal
finding from my stash) using jump rings and the dyed ribbon.

What found objects will you mold
and cast in Amazing Mold Rubber?

#Cre8time ROCKS! Amazing Handmade Jewels by Lynne Suprock

Lynne Suprock here and I am so excited to share a little inspiration with you once again! This one comes from a long standing love of rocks and geodes.

When our son was small, my husband and I began a collection of rocks and minerals that we found around the yard, at the beach, or after an excursion to the gem and mineral show in our local area. We named and displayed our finds, but as time passed, moves happened and our child grew up. The rocks were packed away.

Every once in awhile though, I would find myself at the beach, or at an art show... Collecting once again. However, now The prize evolved into a few sparkly Druzy stones, which I adore. :-)

After having opportunity to experiment with Amazing Casting Products, it donned on me to replicate the shapes of some of these stones with Amazing Mold Putty and recreate my own colors and shimmer with the ever truly Amazing Casting Resin! A bit of glitter or Alumidust in the mold, and voila... semi-precious stones and Druzies take form!

I used the Dremel to make the holes for findings and attached some of the stones to pieces of copper.

I am excited and pleased to share both of these project how-to's in the current Spring 2015 issues of Stampington and Company Belle Armoire Jewelry and Jewelry Affaire Magazines

So go ahead, create your own gems and rock inspired jewels, using a little imagination and some Amazing Casting Products.

Creating Faux Amber

My last post I talked about how I love our local library because of all the amazing How-To books you can find.  The book I found was called "The Art of Resin Jewelry" by Sherri Haab, let me just state I need to add this book to my vast how-to collection.  The faux Amber technique was taken from the book and it worked amazingly.  The box was a wooden box that I painted to look like Birds Eye Maple, the flower I colored with Bic Mark-its before adding the resin.

1.  Materials:
  • Amazing Clear Cast Resin
  • Alumilite Yellow, Brown and Caucasian Dye
  • Tooth Picks (adding dye)
  • Craft Stick (mixing resin)
  • Paper Cup
  • Foil or Gold Leaf (organic materials such as bark, leaves, etc can also be used)
  • Molds (I used a flower one)
  • Wooden Box

Inside or the box:
  • Felt
  • Dew Drops
  • Hot Glue
  • Clear Cast Resin
2.  Mix equal parts of Part A and Part B of the Clear Cast Resin.  Dip toothpick into yellow dye swirl around, dip another toothpick into brown swirl around and dip a toothpick into caucasian swirl around.  Since I own several pieces of amber jewelry I matched the color of the resin to my jewelry.  Cut small flakes of foil and add to part A before mixing the two parts together.  Once the foil has been added to part A, dump both Part A and Part B into a paper cup and mix completely.

3.  Pour resin into molds or cut out of the box.  Allow to cure for 24-48 hours before handling.

Inside of the box:
Line bottom of the box with felt (I chose and amber color).  I added dew drops to the inside of the box and mixed more clear cast resin to cement the dew drops into place.  I allowed the inside to dry for 24-48 hours.

Faux Jade Box

By Amanda Marks

I was at our local library and found a book called "The Art of Resin Jewelry" by Sherri Haab it has amazing ideas for creating faux jewelry.  I have always had a fondness for real jade and decided I need to try this technique.

1.  Materials

  • Amazing Clear Cast Resin
  • Alumilite Yellow Dye
  • Alumilite Blue Dye
  • Amumilite White Dye
  • 3 Measuring Cups
  • Stir Sticks and Toothpicks
  • Mold
  • Palette
  • Gloves (a must when working with Clear Cast Resin)
  • Burnt Umber Acrylic Paint/Brush
2.  Start by mixing equal part of A & B together in a measuring cup (to equal 1/2oz.)
3.  Pour half the mixture into another cup.  Taking one of the cups pour half into another cup.  You will have one cup with 1/4oz and 2 cups with 1/8oz of resin.
4.  The cup with the 1/4oz (the most resin) add green transparent dye.  Mix throughly.
5.  In one of the 1/8oz cups mix only white dye.  Mix throughly.  On a palette mix a green dye and white dye together to create a milky green.  Add a drop or two to the remaining uncolored resin.
6.  Pour milky resin and white resin into the transparent resin.  Fold over a couple of times - you do not want to over mix, you want the swirls.
7.  Pour into mold.  Take a toothpick and slowly swirl together, note you do have to almost touch the bottom to create the desired look.  Go slow or you will get bubbles.
8.  Allow to resin to cure for 24-48 hours.
9.  Un-mold
10.  Add Burnt Umber paint to create the desired Faux look.

Once you have the faux resin embellishment you can add it to anything.  I choose to paint a faux Jade on a  wooden box and add my embellishments to it.  The gold trim was painted with a mixture of Alumilite Metallic Powder and 3D Crystal Lacquer.

I am really pleased with how this piece turned out.  I do plan on trying this again an maybe make some faux Jade earrings.  I did find using a bigger mold was easier for the first time trying this technique.  Side note: this piece has already been claimed by my mom who has a real Jade collection.
