#Cre8time Transformations... Lizard Pin/Brooch REDUX by Lyn Gill

Hi everyone! Lyn here again with a fun Lizard Fall brooch/pin project for you that's full of sparkle. I originally created this pin years ago – back when Southwest design was all the rage... so the 80s...LOL! The last time I wore it the back leg broke off. 

Now it's only made of Shrink Plastic so it's not very thick, it's kinda curved, and very textured. I've glued the leg back, but it may break off again. I decided I need to make a mold of it – so out comes the Amazing Mold Putty! It's perfect for getting the detail and I can add some depth to the pin at the same time. 

After mixing up equal portions of the 2-part Amazing Mold Putty, I pressed it out on my glass desktop to a pretty thin layer (1/4" or so), then I "rocked" the pin back a forth so that the whole pin made contact with the putty. I did it this way because I wanted the mold to be level and flat. I let this cure (it only takes 10-20 minutes). CLICK HERE to view mixing/preparation.

Now for the resin! Here I used Amazing Casting Resin with a drop of Alumilite Dye in Brown so the final colors would really pop (CLICK HERE to view mixing and preparation). I always have molds on stand-by to fill with "left-over" resin when I mix more than needed. I set aside to cure (again 10-20 minutes depending on the weather).

It worked! The finished Amazing Casting Resin Lizard is still thin but thick enough to be rigid. So it shouldn't snap like the original did.

I glued a pin back to the back with a bit of E-6000® and let that cure for at least 30 minutes – but I let it set an hour just to be sure.

Now comes the FUN part! Using some Metallic Acrylic Paints, I "dry-brushed" the pieces starting with Gold, then Bronze and then Copper (you could use any colors). The paint dries really quick so in just a few minutes, you're ready for the next step... Rhinestones! Yep, Rhinestones!!! I have some of them in several sizes and colors. So I chose some Clear Aurora Boreallis – these reflect the colors perfectly (again, you could use any color). A bit of Black Acrylic Paint for the eyes and my fun, sparkly Fall rhinestone lizard brooch is done!

This would make a great gift for the Holidays!

So glad I didn't throw that little pin away when it broke... LOL.

Putting on the #Cre8time Glitz! Fabulous FAUX Druzy by Brenda Burfeind

Good day fellow crafters! Brenda here from Creativity is a State of Mind and I'm so glad to be back showing you my newest fun addiction. I've taken a bit of a break from blogging but not crafting – so I will have lots to show you in the upcoming weeks. I hope you will jump over to my blog soon as check out all the fun things I've done. But while you are here, let's see what I have in store for you today. I've been thinking Valentine's Day projects and the red just fit my mood.

For this little number... I started out with Amazing Clear Cast Resin and the Alumilite Red Dye and an empty bezel.

I added about 2 tiny drops of the Alumilite Red Dye to the Amazing Clear Cast Resin after it was all mixed up (you can view mixing techniques HERE), and it gives it a beautiful rich red color. I then slowly poured that into my bezel and let this cure overnight. The clear cast resin does need to cure for a good 24 hours depending on how thick it is.

Meanwhile, I took one of these glass globs and let my frustration out on it. Seriously put your glob in a baggie and after a couple good whacks with a hammer... it's broken up nicely. Please don't forget your eye protection!

  

Next I took my silver alcohol ink and added a few drops into an empty pill container and added a few glass chunks. I also did the same with the cranberry alcohol inks and more glass pieces.

  

Swish your pill bottle around and pour your alcohol out (I actually pour it into another bottle and use it for my next project), and then pour your glass shards onto a paper plate and let dry. Since my resin has to cure overnight, I just left my glass chunks to dry the same time.

Once the resin has cured I mix up a tiny batch of more Amazing Clear Cast Resin and paint a layer over the cured resin... then the magic starts! I carefully place the glass pieces into the resin. Building up in the middle and then layering around to fill the entire bezel. I used mainly the red chunks and added a few silver chunks here and there. Then I let this cure again for another 24 hours.

I added a vintage chain that I got at an auction of some broken jewelry.

#Cre8time Solutions... How to FIX a Broken DONUT by Maria Soto

My kids love going to Chemshaw 13 DonutZ and Comics shop in Crown Point, Indiana. They have some amazing donuts and lots of comics – not to mention their coffee is really good too. Well a couple of weeks ago, we went to get some donuts and my daughter purchased this really cute key chain. It had this really nice donut, I guess even their toy donuts are fun to have. 

The other day my daughter came to me all sad as she showed me her key chain and how her little donut was falling apart. She asked me if I could fix it for her... I said "sure, I'll use some clear resin." She responded, "but can it stay soft as it is now?" I looked at her puzzled, "what do you mean soft?"

I had no idea, but it turns out the little donut is made of a sponge like material – I thought it was made of plastic.

And now it was falling apart from where

the plastic ring holds the key chain part.

Look how soft this little donut is... honestly, it really does look like it's made of bread. The texture is pretty awesome. I decided the best way to use the Amazing Clear Cast Resin was to apply in small amounts with the mixing wood stick. 

When I thought it was made of plastic, I was going to just add the resin all over it on the outside to give it a covering of resin to keep it from breaking apart again later on. Now I had to take a different approach since my daughter wanted me to make sure it would stay nice as soft once fixed. 

I gathered these supplies to make the repair: parchment paper, wipes, measuring cups, a mixing stick, and Amazing Clear Cast Resin.

Using Amazing Clear Cast Resin is pretty easy – you mix equal amounts of parts "A" and "B" {you can CLICK HERE to view mixing instructions}. 

   

Add part "A" to part "B" and mix the resin slowly, 

then let it sit for a few minutes for the bubbles to go away.

Once the resin was mixed, I began to add a few drops at a time into the donut, starting where the donut was falling apart. Since this is a sponge like material, I figured it would absorb the resin, so I kept adding more resin inside. 

The inside material looked wet once the resin was added.

I waited a few minutes and then began to apply some of the resin onto the back of the donut using the stir stick – concentrating mostly on the area where the tear took place. Then I added a layer of Amazing Clear Cast Resin over the entire back.

I left this alone for 24 hours to cure. I was a bit worried the resin might take away the softness of this little donut...

   

But twenty-four hours later, I checked and YES!! The donut was fixed... and it was still as soft as it was before getting repaired with resin – even the back was still soft!

  

You can still see where the repair was made, but that is OK. I just hope that when my daughter adds this to her keys, it will last her a long time.

This fun donut key ring is as good as new, and my daughter is so happy that I was able to fix it! I seriously love this product... it's "amazing" no matter how I use it.

#Cre8time Transformations... Dishing Up a Shamrock Ring Holder by Brenda Burfeind

Good day friends! Brenda here from Creativity is a State of Mind and I'm going to show you how to use a failed project to dish up a shamrock...

It all started with a butterfly cutout I had. I really wanted to turn this beautiful butterfly into a stamp. I mixed up some Amazing Mold Putty and you can see mixing instructions HERE. I pressed my butterfly cutout into the mold putty and waited for about 10 minutes.

When I pulled the butterfly out I realized it didn't look perfect, so I cut around it anyway using regular scissors. There were definitely some imperfections and when I stamped it, it didn't give me a clean look (sorry no picture of the stamped image). I really didn't want to waste all that mold putty and so I thought and thought about what I could do with it.

I remembered a tutorial I made for this Valentine's day pendant.

I used the same concept again. This time however, since the Amazing Mold Putty had already set up, I couldn't get my heart clay cutter to go through the putty. I could get a bit of an indentation of the shape and then I just used my scissors to cut the hearts out. Since the putty was so thin, it was very easy.

Here are my hearts and I even used an edge of the butterfly to create the stem for my shamrock. You can see that it had even been stained with the ink.

Now, the hoarder I am... I had these cute little ceramic

coasters that I purchased eons ago at a thrift store.

I tried hot gluing the putty pieces down, but they just popped right off. I sprayed some Krylon Spray Adhesive to the pieces and glued them onto the ceramic coaster. That worked like a charm!

Then I mixed up some Amazing Casting Resin and poured it into the dish, just enough to fill around the shamrock shape. There is a video HERE you can view on mixing instructions.

That set up to cure for about 10 minutes and then I gently pulled the pieces out.

Pretty cool huh?

 

Then I mixed up some more Amazing Casting Resin with the Fluorescent "FLO" Green Dye and filled in the open areas. That also set up in a matter of minutes.

And here you have an Amazing Shamrock ring dish!
