Swimming with #Cre8time Inspiration... by Kristie Taylor

Hello everyone! Kristie Taylor here to share some under-the-sea inspiration. Do you ever see something and just know that it has started an avalanche of ideas? It literally happens to me all the time!

Sometimes, I will be working on a project and one thing leads to another and another until my work surface is covered in several different projects all in various stages of drying... LOL!

Many years ago, I bought a refrigerator magnet of a seahorse. I love sea horses – I find them beautiful and mysterious. Anyways, the magnet lost its stickiness and luster a long time ago, so I put it in a box of mixed media supplies to be used again one day. I ran across him recently, and started a project using him as the center of attention, then halfway into the project, I had another idea... of course to create a mold! Now he could be the center of attention in several different projects.

That is part of the wonder of Amazing Mold Putty and Amazing Casting Resin – you can create a mold, and use an object more than once, in so many ways!

But in creating this one... it fired up my imagination to create something else. Stay tuned for an upcoming tutorial of another AMAZING creation featuring this lovely resin casting of my retired starfish magnet.

What altered things will you create
using Amazing Casting Products??!

Quench your #Cre8time Thirst... AMAZING Inspiration from Kristie Taylor

Hello crafty friends! Kristie here today to share some AMAZING inspiration with you – some DIY custom hardware I've fashioned out of Amazing Casting Products.

Sometimes you need a pipe... a rusty pipe that is. After some failed attempts I decided to make my own using Amazing Mold Putty and Amazing Casting Resin!

Can you believe I turned this... into THIS?!

I was amazed at how easy it is to turn a bendy straw into a rusty pipedream! All it takes is a few simple steps with Amazing Casting Products and a little rusty paint to create a beautiful art journal cover like this...

Steampunk Dream!

Hark the #Cre8time Angels Sing... by Maria Soto #moldputtymadness

Hi there! Maria here and today I want to share with you a way to fix your molds. See I still have my nativity out... I know it's March and it should have been put away back in January, but well it's still out on my glass table. As I looked at the angel I noticed her wings, the folds on her dress, her face and hair, well there was so much texture on this piece that I had to take out my Amazing Mold Putty!

It was fun looking at this piece and noticing all the different molds I could create with this one statute. Now one thing I noticed is that several of the areas I wanted to mold would give me flat molds, which I could use as stamps – but I also wanted to cast parts of this angel. After making all these molds, I remembered one fun fact about this amazing product; it will adhere to itself even after the molds are set. This is something I tend to forget sometimes, I usually make molds that don't required a border but several of these did. Now keep in mind this product sets pretty fast so I suggest that based on the size of your mold, you add your border a little bit at a time.

I actually used two of my nativity statutes –
the angel and one of the three wise men.

First, take equal amounts of parts "A" and "B" of the Amazing Mold Putty. I like to mix each part separately for a little while, then mix both together until you no longer see any white {CLICK HERE to view mixing/preparation}. Make sure you have the item you are creating your mold from ready because this product does set pretty fast and you don't want to waste any.

Here you can see my angel – I decided to make a mold of the wings. This is a pretty big piece so the wings are going to be pretty big, so I wanted to make the mold in one piece.

Here is the back of the angel covered with Amazing Mold Putty. I covered the wings completely. It took about 10 minutes for the putty to set, then I carefully removed the mold off the wings.

Here are some close ups of the new mold. You can see the edges of the mold are not very even. If I try adding resin to the mold as it is here, the resin will run off and I will not have a nice resin piece.

I had to trim parts of the wing to make sure I could
add a nice smooth border to fix my mold.

I took small amounts of the Amazing Mold Putty, mixed them together and rolled it out so that I could add a border on the wings mold and then this mold will be ready to cast resin pieces without having resin spillage.

Here you can see how I added the border. I suggest working with small amounts at a time because once you add the border, you need to blend the seams and shape the border so that you have no leaks between the seams. Since this product sets pretty fast {and the heat from your hands makes it go faster}, you don't want to mix too much and have it go to waste from hardening before you have finished applying.

Here you can see the mold with it's new border. Because of the shape of this mold, the border of the wings I added had to be different heights, to make sure that when I add resin the entire mold is level.

Here you can see how I blended the seams. This step is very important, if you don't blend the seams your resin can spill or seep out. In the event you missed a few areas, it's OK – you can go back and add a little bit more Amazing Mold Putty to seal any leaks.
**A TIP** To check for any leaks on your molds – fill them up with water. Just to make sure there are no leaks at all. If you feel any wetness on the outside, you will end up with resin spilling out and a mess on your hands. Dry the mold completely and add more mold putty to fill any gaps.

I like making molds that don't require all this extra work, but I find this process very creative. Sometimes you to make changes to your molds – it just requires a little bit more work, and this way you can end up with something more interesting and create a one-of-a-kind mold.

For this mold I just wanted to add a nice border so I can cast a set of wings. I sure am looking forwards to making a casting of broken wings too.

Here are a few of the castings I made from this mold. Using Amazing Casting Resin I was able to cast the wings in one piece and also in parts. I have several more statutes that can give me some very interesting molds. I can't wait to create more fun pieces with all these castings. It sure was fun to create and fix this new mold!

Depending on the amount of resin you pour into the mold, you can get different results. Here you can see the thickness of each piece. You can use them in many different ways, my favorite is the one that shows the full wings, it's very thin and light weight.

I used the titanium white as a base coat before I add other colors. I also used some of the Alumilite Bronze and Silver Metallic Powders at the end. I think I'm going to keep playing with this set of wings to distress them up a bit more.

I hope this post inspires you to go ahead and try and make some molds like I did here and share with us how you fixed or changed them to come up with your very own unique mold. What do you have around your home that would make some great pieces to use in your art?

Having an AMAZING #Cre8time Treasure Hunt...
by Maria Soto

Hi there! Today I thought I would share how I used some items I have at home to make some fun customized molds. I thought it would be interesting to take something from around the house and find a fun area to mold... then once you have a partial mold, you can go ahead and cut it up, or add more of the amazing mold putty and make something fun and different.

I love Amazing Mold Putty, because it's so easy to use... and the best part is you can carry it with you also! In this case I just went around the house looking to see what fun items I could find that I could turn into new molds.

First thing I did was check my chimney mantel and sure enough I found this fun vase I had purchased at an estate sale – I got it not only because of the color and texture, but because of the fun trim near the top of the vase, and the bottom as it has fun details.

So with this household finding I decided to make two different molds. I mixed equal amounts of parts "A" & "B" of the Amazing Mold Putty (CLICK HERE to view instructions on how to mix), and when the putty was fully combined, I pressed it against the pattern sections I wanted to mold.

I covered the trim on the top of the vase with Amazing Mold Putty – pressing it all the way around. Then I mixed more putty and placed it along the bottom of the vase, but only on the front side.

This is what the mold on the bottom looks like – it captured every little detail from the design on the vase. This can be a really nice stamp, or I can ink it up and add a very thin layer of resin to cast just parts of this mold in resin.

Here is the mold I made from the top of the vase, including all the beautiful texture! This mold is pretty big and thick, so I just might cut it up into two halves and trim the edges so I can use the middle part of the mold later on.

I flipped the mold inside out so you can see all the pretty detail captured by the Amazing Mold Putty! It's so fun looking for fun items you can use to make molds out of... but it's even more fun trying to think of ways to use these new molds once you create them! Please come back later to see what I end up making with these fun molds.

What fun household items can you
transform into Objects d'Arte?

#Cre8time Wedding Table Decor Country Style...
by Brenda Burfeind

Hello crafters! Brenda here with Creativity is a State of Mind on a wonderful Mold Rubber Monday. I'm so excited to show you how to a simple yet stunning resemblance of the original.

Now some of you who know me, know that my son is getting married this fall. His fiance is a country girl by heart and she wants to incorporate "country meets city" into their wedding. She's asked me to give a few samples of table numbers and I've done so with a few items, but I think I finally hit the jackpot with this one. While on a junk-ing trip of late I found this piece of wood laying on the ground. I am always walking with my head down, not because I'm shy, but because I might find something interesting to play with. LOL And find I did.

Here is the little wooden stump I found. It's so cute. Only about an inch tall, but so much detail in this little guy. I even love the notch cut out of the side. Crazy that I am that excited about a piece of wood, huh? Well, it hit me that I could use this little guy to make table numbers. So I took him home...

...and hot glued him into a container.

I mixed up my Amazing Mold Rubber, (you can view a video tutorial on mixing instructions HERE), because I wanted the entire stump and the Amazing Mold Rubber picks up SOOOO much lovely detail.

You can see how the hotglue keeps this little guy from floating up. It took about 18 hours to set up, but it will totally depends on where you live. Humidity and cold play a big factor in the setting up process {like the gals in humid South Florida have it set up in about 2 hours}. It's well worth the wait.

After it was all set up I popped him out of the container. See, there's nothing left in the container either so I can reuse, reuse, and reuse the same container over and over again.

Then I popped that little guy out of the mold. You can see where some of the wood residue was left behind, but after a couple of castings you won't see that anymore.

Here is a side-by-side comparison of the original stump,
(top) and the resin cast stump (bottom).

I added the Alumilite African American Dye to the Amazing Casting Resin. You can see the instructions on how to prepare that HERE also.

Isn't this just the perfect replica? Look at all that detail
I'm so in love with this little guy!

After drilling a hole into the middle of the stump I added a wire with E6000. Cut a piece of cardstock and embossed it. I added a number to the front and there you have a "country style" table number. I may even add something to that little notch cut out on the side.

What WOOD you mold in

I hope you've enjoyed my Mold Rubber Monday tutorial and would love it if you left a comment telling me what "FIND" you would mold. If you've used the Amazing Mold Rubber, please leave me a link so I can come and check out your project. I love sharing and would love it if you shared with me!

Until next time, happy "finding" ~ Brenda

Take a #Cr8time Road Trip on Mold Rubber Monday with Aimée Wheaton

Road trips, you either love them or hate them. I used to love them as a kid because as the oldest I always had my trusty yellow walkman (yes I'm dating myself now) and I could tune out my brothers and just look out the windows waiting to get to our destination. I have so many fond memories of piling in the car and seeing new places. To this day I LOVE road trips (for the most part). I am hoping to do a few this year as a family and being able to make new memories in 2015. This takes me to my latest project - My Road Trippin bird family!

I love going out and hunting for treasures, I usually have to pay for them which is OK but sometimes I get super lucky and find things I can use in my art, this happened with this project. We went on a play date to a park one day and I found this amazing wooden decorative piece that someone used as a toy and it broke. It was a primitive sheep standing on a checkerboard base with wheels and a pull string. The sheep was broken off the top, I promptly scooped it up and took it home as a treasure, I wasn't sure what I as going to do with it but knew I could make something fun!

I purchased two ceramic birds at a local flea market just for fun and then the wheels started turning, somehow these birds were going to go on a road trip ..... I didn't want to use the original birds in the piece so I decided to mold the one that wasn't cracked in Amazing Mold Rubber - I am hooked on this product, it's super easy to use and it it turned out amazing!! OK enough reading let's get to some photos!

Here's the cute little guy in a mold box that was originally a paper punch package. I hot glued him down so he wouldn't move and also sealed the hole on the bottom of the bird with packing tape.

Next I prepared the entire container of Amazing Mold Rubber

Thankfully it's humid where I live, the Amazing Mold Rubber cured very quickly and I was able to demold in a few hours after I poured it. You can see the shape of the paper punch now! LOL

OK now that the bird was demolded, I can now prepare my resin and pour it in. I decided to use Amazing Casting Resin because of how quick it sets and I knew I would be collaging the birds.

The resin setting, this mold got super hot! For larger volumes of resin mixed, more is heat generated in curing process.

Look at this amazing casting!!!! Which is the original? ;) I'm envisioning making a mixed media series of birds, it has nice weight to it too. I was thrilled with how it turned out! You guys the opportunities are endless with this product!

Next I decided to collage using mod podge and vintage paper and tissue paper.

Decided to do 2 birds! The butterfly was an embellishment I made awhile back and had been holding onto it to use somewhere.

Next gesso the crap out of all of the items making sure you can still see some of the stuff underneath it. I wanted to tone it down a bit.

Here is the cool base I found! :) I painted the entire thing.

Next I added back in some color using some chalk stamps in various colors.

While the birds were drying I found some vintage watch parts and used them to cover the screws on the wheels using some E6000 adhesive.

Adds a bit more dimension and interest.

I wanted to add some height to the base and remembered I had a large piece of cork in my mixed media junk box, painted it with gesso.

One cool thing about working with resin is the overflow that you have. Apparently I've reached for the same mold I made from Amazing Mold Putty when I have mixed too much resin, these 3 flower pieces I had in a box waiting to be used and they were molded from the bottom of a depression green glass plate, it's a sunflower motif.

I glued all of it down to the base.

Next I went out to my garage for the messy process of spraying the base. I used some metallic sprays that I had in green's and blues. I also used some white spray paint for extra contrast.

I sprayed and wiped too to get variation.

While out there I found a nest I had glued some lapis beads into last year. OMG it was perfect for the theme! This thing just kind of built itself once the nest was found. I spray painted the nest part while I was out there with the white paint.

I placed everything on the base for positioning purposes.

I added some glitter to the "eggs" with a light glue.

Next I dug through my button stash. Buttons are awesome to add extra oomph!

Then I glued on the nest with E6000.

I glued on the butterfly with hot glue.

Hot glued on the "headlights" made from buttons.

Glued on the paper hearts I punched out of some gelli print paper I made.

Edged the hearts using a charcoal pencil for extra pop.
Went back over it with mod podge to seal it.

Added on alphabet stickers to the front with mod podge.

Glued the birds on facing opposite directions with E6000. Added some gesso on the buttons too to make them pop more from the base.

I REALLY like how this project turned out! Mold rubber has become my favorite! So where do you think the birds are going?
