Serving up #Cre8time Greetings... by Tracy Krueger

Hello everyone! It's Tracy here and I'm super excited to share with you my first project as an Amazing Casting Products Creative Team member! The project I'm sharing today is something I created to display at a Holiday Market that my employer holds every December. I knew I wanted to incorporate a technique I learned about 3 months ago... Fluid (or Flow) Painting.

I started by staining two wood plates with Minwax Classic Grey wood stain. I left the centers unstained as I will be painting that area with acrylics.

After the stain has dried thoroughly, I picked out the Acrylic paint colors I want to use. I usually always include black and white, then 2-3 other colors (here I've used 4 colors of Artist Loft paints from Michaels). If you've never tried Flow Painting, there are tons of videos and techniques on YouTube.

I taped the edges of the plate so I didn't accidentally get paint outside the middle of the plate. Then I took the plate and placed it on top of the cup containing all the colors combined, and flipped over – holding the two tightly together.

You want to wait a minute to let all of the paint settle, then lift the cup off of the plate and begin to gently tilt the plate so that the paint covers your surface. After surface is covered, I use a kitchen torch to make more of the "cells" appear (with flame couple of inches above the paint). Gently remove tape and place on a very flat/level surface. It's a good idea to covered them while drying – creating a "hood" so dust does not settle onto the paint. You will need about 24 - 48 hours for the paint to FULLY dry {depending on your climate/conditions drying time may vary}.

Now you are ready for your first coat of Amazing Clear Cast Resin. I mixed equal amounts of Parts "A" and "B" (I used two Tbsp. of each) according to the package directions, and poured onto the dry paint, using the stir stick to spread it around. Depending on the size of your substrate, you may need to vary amount of resin needed. I always let the resin cure 24 hours (sometimes even more) to make sure it is fully ready.

I pulled out some of my rub-ons and applied "Live, Laugh, Love" in white and "Family" in black on the two different plates. By placing on top of the cured layer of resin, you will see that the letters sort of "pop off" the plate. I love the dimension that it gives!

Now you are ready for a second coat of Amazing Clear Cast Resin to seal the letters in place. Spread resin around with your stir stick so it reaches all of the edges. Again, let this cure at least 24 hours (until it isn't sticky).

These plates will make fantastic Holiday serving plates {Amazing Clear Cast Resin is food safe} or even lovely decorations for your wall.

Thank you for taking time to read my first post.
I look forward to sharing more in the future!

One Skull or Two... #Cre8time Creepy Cocktails with Alumilite

With Halloween right around the corner... our Cre8time party planning and holiday decor is in full swing. Today we have a creepy-cool project to share featuring a product from Alumilite that can be used to create food-safe silicone molds – custom skull ice cube mold using Alumilite Plat 10.

Alumilite is the company who produces all of the Amazing Casting Products you all know and LOVE – and also products for DIY fishing lures and rock climbing holds... and much more!

This project starts with two plastic skull party favors. To create an ice cube mold, one would want to make many cubes at a time. So first a mold will be made to cast these two skulls in order to make 12 blank masters which can be done with Amazing Mold Rubber and Amazing Casting Resin.

Watch to see more of this amazing process...

If you have trouble viewing video, please CLICK HERE.

After creating twelve resin skull blanks, these are mounted into a new mold box where the Plat 10 silicone is poured to create a new custom skull ice cube mold. This is so creepy cool!

Plat 10 is a platinum based silicone mold making rubber that when cured yields a soft and pliable 10A rubber. Plat 10 complies with FDA 21 CFR 177.2600 and can be used for making molds for delicate castings including chocolate, fondant, sugar... and ice cubes, too!

The Alumilite yellow Plat 10 Mold is FDA Compliant... meaning this is food safe! This is so AMAZING!!! With this product you can have the detail and versatility of Amazing Mold Rubber {not FDA compliant}, but with a silicone product that is FOOD-SAFE.

How would embellish your cocktails?

Cool #Cre8time Breezes bring Falling Leaves... #DIY Cheese Board by Tracy Alden

Hello! Tracy with a special Amazing Mold Rubber Monday project! My inspiration for this project came from the somewhat quicker than normal drop in temperatures in our area and the seasonal falling of the leaves. I noticed some dried leaves covered in frost and wondered if I could replicate the look of fall leaves in icy water. Along with wanting to have some new table decor for the upcoming holidays, the idea of making a cheese board with fall leaves and resin replicating ice wandered into my mind. Since Amazing Clear Cast Resin is FDA approved **food safe** – I knew it would work perfect for this project!

Supplies:

I collected some dried leaves and painted them with Liquitex Gloss Varnish on the front and back of the leaves. Before the varnish dried I dusted on a variety of colors of Alumidust to the leaves. I set the leaves to the side to dry.

I found a cutting board perfect to mold the shape for my cheese board, in this case a bamboo cutting board. It had an unusual shape but I realized I had a piece of plastic from a toy box that was the perfect size to be the mold box for my cutting board.

Carefully following the instructions, I mixed up one kit of Amazing Mold Rubber and slowly poured it into the mold box. CLICK HERE to view mixing/preparation. In the process of mixing, the Amazing Mold Rubber had formed bubbles. To quickly pop the bubbles I used a heat gun to slowly heat the uncured mold rubber to pop the bubbles.

Once cured I had a perfectly smooth layer of Amazing Mold Rubber at the bottom of the mold box. Now you might be asking me why not mold the entire cutting board in one step like in one of my previous Blog Posts? I wanted to mold a smooth top surface for my cheese board but with textures sides on the cutting board. To do that I need to create the mold in two steps.

To prepare the cutting board for molding, I wrapped it tight with clear plastic wrap and taped it shut. The thin lines of the plastic wrap would be picked up by the Amazing Mold Rubber, giving the illusion of ice.

Once I placed the cutting board on the bottom layer of Amazing Mold Rubber, I put soda and juice bottles on top of the cutting board to press it down onto the first layer. I poured another layer of Amazing Mold Rubber, just enough to cover the sides of the cutting board. With the bottles pressing the cutting board down the first layer of mold rubber would stay smooth with only a minor about of seepage from the second layer.

Once the mold was cured I carefully removed the cutting board and trimmed all the dried spillage of Amazing Mold Rubber.

Using the technique I used in this Blog Post, I coated all of the dried leaves in Amazing Clear Cast Resin and carefully placed them into the Amazing Mold Rubber mold (with a thin layer of Amazing Clear Cast already poured into the mold) face side down. I moved the leaves around in the resin to pop any large air bubbles. I wasn't overly concerned about air bubbles forming because air bubbles naturally form in ice and any small ones in the resin would add to the effect.

I let the first layer of resin cure to tacky firm and poured another layer of Amazing Clear Cast Resin, almost to the top of the mold. While the resin was still liquid I tore up pieces of mulberry paper and placed it gently on top of the resin. The paper was not sealed so it soaked up resin creating a gauzy background layer, mimicking the look of frozen water and plant debris.

Once the second layer of resin was cured to a tacky firm stage I poured one last layer of Amazing Clear Cast Resin to the top of mold. I sprinkled a bit of frost colored glitter and mylar flakes and let the resin cure completely.

Once the cheese board was removed from the mold, I carefully removed any resin spills and edges with a sharp craft knife. To give a smooth but frosted finish to the edges and sides of the cheese board I used a small hand drill with a felt buffing tip. I cleaned the cheese board with warm soap and water to remove any dust.

Now I have a one of kind cheese board perfect for upcoming holiday appetizers!

When not in use it works perfect for a Fall decoration in the kitchen!

Set your #MixedMedia table for a #Cre8time Buffet... by Melissa Johnson

Good afternoon everyone! Today I am sharing one of my favorite projects to date – a set of custom mixed media plates!
Did you know that
Amazing Clear Cast Resin
is food safe?

So it's perfect for creating some fun custom pieces! Just remember to hand wash these treasures, as they are not dishwasher safe.

To begin, I purchased some melamine plates from the Dollar Tree and covered them with two coats of gesso. Allow gesso to dry completely.

For the next step, I gathered my acrylic paints (any brand is fine, I mixed up Golden with cheaper craft paints) and began randomly finger-painting on the plates. Start with your warm colors first, and allow to dry. Then go in with your cool colors. This way they don't all blend together and turn muddy.

Continue to build the layers of paint until you are happy with the colors.

When everything is dry, go in with your black and white and begin drawing in designs and making marks with a fine brush. After you have your design painted in, take a foam brush and gently begin to work in a solid color around your design. I like to mix some lighter shades of the same color along with some white to create a variance in the color. You can also add some stenciling in at this point in a bold color like black. To give my plates a consistent look, I used the same stencil on all of the plates.

When your design is complete, mix up some of the Amazing Clear Cast Resin and coat the plate. Please CLICK HERE to view mixing/preparation. Allow to dry overnight. I added two coats to mine for extra gloss and durability. You want to make sure every bit of the plate is covered.

And here are the finished plates!

How will you create custom plates
with Amazing Clear Cast Resin?

I'm Melting... I'm Melting!!! #DIY Wicked Witch Cookies by Tanya Ruffin

I am gearing up for Halloween craft classes at my studio in Baton Rouge and thought of something fun to do using a Wicked Witch from the Wizard of Oz doll! This involved making two molds – the first mold was made using Amazing Mold Putty and the second used Amazing Remelt!

Step one was mold the head of the witch with Amazing Mold Putty.

I then cast 4 heads with Amazing Casting Resin. They are dyed black because I am going to re-purpose the heads later in another project. Using a hot glue gun, I glued the heads to a small tray. Next, I microwaved the Remelt (follow the directions on the lid - CLICK HERE to view). Then I poured melted material over the resin heads making sure to completely cover. Now you wait... I placed mine in the freezer for a few minutes to quickly set up.

This is what my food safe mold looks like!!

Now melt your candy melts (following the
directions on the bag), and pour into the mold.

Slap this puppy in the freezer for a few minutes
to harden the candy and then pop out!

I spooned some melted candy on the cookies first to glue the heads in place. I thought that without painted eyes it was hard to tell this was the wicked witch front – so on two cookies I tilted her head sideways and placed in the microwave to "melt" it a little more.

The profile REALLY looks like her!!!

These were so much fun. I am going to have to make
a stash of green candy heads to save for Halloween!

They look very lovely on a Halloween platter!

Now to figure out what to make a realistic edible broom out of??
