#Cre8time Furbaby Keepsakes... Making a Paw Print Rubber Stamp – Part 2 by Tanya Ruffin

Part 2: The Stamp

To read Part 1 – click here.

Now that you have your second mold you are going use the UMR mold release and spray several coats inside your silicone mold.

After they mold release dries, mix a small amount of Amazing Mold Rubber (follow the directions on the box for mixing small amounts). Pour into mold and allow to cure.

Don't try to de-mold too soon. Let it cure overnight.

The gently pull the rubber out of the mold. You may have some areas where the silicone mold sticks to the rubber. But if you used the mold release it shouldn't be too bad.

THIS IS WHY WE DIDN'T USE OUR ORIGINAL MOLD!!!!

If you don't use a mold release or not enough mold release, the Amazing Mold Rubber will fuse to the Amazing Mold Putty making a solid rubber block.

Tape your rubber paw to an acrylic block.

Ink up with a permanent ink.

Make your print.
It may take a few tries to get a good print.

I scanned my print into the computer to make some background paper.

I also printed a laser print of my beloved Lily and mod podged it to a vase.

I used the paw print paper to fill in some of the empty space
and embellished with the black glittered resin paw.

What rubber stamps can you make

#Cre8time Transformations... Steampunk Watch REDUX by Tanya Ruffin

I have been saving this old watch for awhile waiting for the right thing to make. The watch back was gone and all I had was the band and the crystal. I had planned on putting an image inside but then a discovery changed my plans.

One day digging through some supplies I found a small container of watch parts and mini keys. And it all came into light... make it a new bracelet with resin!

I had to plan what I was going to put inside because the crystal was the bottom and that would be the top. So I placed a small key inside, mixed some Amazing Clear Cast Resin and put a small amount in the watch face {CLICK HERE to view mixing/preparation}. After I let that cure a few hours, I mixed some more resin, then poured it in and placed a watch gear. I slowly layered the embellishments.
Then trying to decide what to put as the background (the top layer) I placed it on my wrist and discovered I did not want a background. I loved how it looked seeing completely through it. So I left it clear.

So if you find a watch that no longer works – take out the back and make yourself a fun and funky Steampunky watch bracelet!

How do you upcycle items into cool jewels??

Macho yet #Cre8time Cool! #Steampunk Frame REDUX by Tanya Ruffin

This was made using a few items from my favorite place... the Dollar Tree!

Start with a frame and a submarine toy. I loved the look of these subs! It looked like something from 10,000 Leagues Under the Sea.  Ok, now I am thinking a Beatlesque item with a YELLOW SUBMARINE!! Now, where do I find some blue meanies??

Using Amazing Mold Putty, I made a mold of the subs.

Once the molds are cured you can dust the inside with Copper Alumidust or use copper Rub 'n Buff® after resin cures (that is how I made this one). I also mixed in some black Alumilite Dye with the Amazing Casting Resin.

Using some left over scrapbook paper and a Sizzix Eileen Hull 3D wrapped Flower die, I made some roses. You can make some similar by using the template included on Victorian Resin roses post or just use some silk roses.

Once cured, I glued the subs and the roses to the frame and inserted a Steampunk'd portrait (shhhh... don't tell my hubby he is in this post).

Yea, I stole a cigar from my hubby's stash for this photo!

And there you go, a macho yet cool picture frame!

Kind of Wild, Wild West-ish with this filter!

What fun ways do you embellish
with Amazing Casting Products?

Show MUMSY Some #Cre8time Love... DIY Faux Leather Box by Tanya Ruffin

Wouldn't Lily Munster just love getting her Mother's Day Present in this lovely faux leather coffin box? Now your mother may not like a "coffin" box, but this technique works great on any box, book cover or even mirror!

This is a fun technique that you can use with so many other projects and is adapted from Andy Skinner's technique. I have done this same technique large boxes and it looks amazing!

Supplies:

  • Box
  • Cast Resin Pieces using Amazing Casting Resin
  • Tissue Paper (any color)
  • Black Acrylic Paint
  • Burnt Umber Acrylic Paint
  • Raw Sienna Acrylic Paint
  • Decoupage Glue or Gel Medium
  • E6000® Glue
  • Brushes - 1 course bristle brush
  • Rub 'n Buff®

Gather up all your left over cast resin pieces... this is a great way to recycle some pieces and parts. Then pick out some pieces you want to attach to your box.

Then find a box. You can use any type box but I am using
a coffin shaped box from the dollar store.

Put the lid on your box and draw a line around the lid.
This is where you will limit your tissue paper layer.

Start gluing your resin pieces to your box.

After about 15 minutes cover the lid completely with the decoupage glue. Crinkle up your tissue paper, straighten it out and then start pressing it into your lid. You will need to apply glue to the top as well. You do not want any air pockets, so flatted it down with a layer of glue. If it is too large of a tissue paper crinkle it won't look like leather. You are just trying to get a rough wrinkled texture.

Use your course bristle brush to really work
the tissue into the design of your resin piece.

Once the glue is dry, you can start painting. The first coat is acrylic black. Completely cover the lid and bottom, inside and out. Let dry.

Once it dries you will dry brush the next layer. You will use Burnt Sienna for this. You can buy these colors in craft paint, so don't be alarmed!

What is dry brushing?

Dry brushing is when the paint brush has paint on it but not loaded with paint. You drip your brush in paint and then wipe it off on a paper towel. It works best with a course brush.

This is a too wet. Luckily, we can always paint over it with black or use a paper towel to wipe it off, or dab off some.

It's starting to look really cool! You can even dry brush some back in some spots as a touch up, but always go over with the burnt sienna. There is a reason for the layers. The darkest color is on the bottom, then lighter then lightest on top. Don't deviate from that.

Once you are satisfied, you will then move on to the lightest color, Raw Umber. Dry brush your highlights. At this point you could substitute a metallic Rub 'n Buff® color, but I wanted to keep it as leathery as possible, so I went with the raw umber.

You are just lightly skimming the surface with your dry brush. Do not try to get in the grooves. You want the black to be deep in the crevices. It will dry lighter and look more realistic.

This looks like an area that would need touching up,
but when it dried it was hardly noticeable.

I absolutely LOVE this technique. If you are into Steampunk,
you can really do some fun things!

I also altered a notebook and mirror from the Dollar Store using a similar technique using metal tape and substituting raw sienna for silver Rub 'n Buff® with resin cast Ouija board pieces and gears from purchased molds.

What would you customize and alter
with cast resin pieces into functional ART?
