#Cre8time Eyes are Slimy... SpOoKy Altered Jar by Susan M. Brown {sbartist}

Hello AMAZING Makers!! Halloween is right around the corner and my Cre8time broom is charged up and racing about! Today I'm thrilled to share this brand new SpOoKtacular Halloween project created with stuff I have around the house {crafty stuff included}.

Tuesday is my favorite day of the week! For me it's recycling day and I am always inspired as to what I may find in my recycling bin to use in my Cre8time adventures. Today I am altering a jar using Amazing Casting ProductsEtchall® Etching Creme and a few things from my crafty stash...

...transforming this salsa jar into a spooky jar containing "Eyes of Newt"!

I begin by soaking the label off of the bottle and using some rubbing alcohol to clear off any residual glue and stamped information on the glass and I am ready to get to work CREEPin' it up!

But before I move ahead with etching glass – I mix up some Amazing Clear Cast Resin with some Fluorescent Green Dye and Phosphorescent Powder {the same batch from my poison apples}, then pour a little in the bottom of the jar and set aside overnight to cure.

Next I create the words on my computer to cut vinyl on my Cricut Expression Air. I have created a mask to etch "eye of newt" onto the glass Etchall® Etching Créme. The process is easy, though there is more prep work involved to make the etched magic... please CLICK HERE to pop over and see tutorial on just the etching.

The combination of the etched letters and the Green Glowing Resin look so SpOoKy... but I'm going to CREEP it up MORE!

Using Amazing Mold Putty I quickly created a mold of a piece of bleached bone that has a bit of a curve to it and an old broken faucet handle. I then cast 4 pieces of bone and one handle with Amazing Casting Resin to give me some pieces to embellish the lid of my recycled jar. This resin cures a lovely opaque white and in about 10-15 minutes I have resin pieces ready to alter.

With my resin pieces ready... I add a patina finish to the jar lid and resin pieces with Ranger Adirondack alcohol inks {gold and pitch black}, then rubbing the high points with a gold paste wax. In less than 10 minutes all of my white resin castings and metal recycled bits are all wearing the same grungy patina! FINGERS TOO – LOL!!

Now for the super SLIMY finishing touch...

**BEWARE** The following is how I made my slimy "eyes of newt". I used a food product BUT THE WAY I HAVE DONE THIS makes it NOT SAFE TO EAT -- FOR DISPLAY ONLY. You are going to want to only prepare/use this when you're going to have this on display for a party {because it will mold... it gets real gross, pretty fast}. I soaked some Chia seeds in water. When Chia seeds are soaked in liquid they swell up sort of like a tapioca, but not so large and they have little black thingy in the middle that looks like an eye. I happened to have some in my pantry for use in smoothies! PERFECT! I added a bit of my fluorescent Green Alumilite resin die and Alumilite Phosphorescent powder with some rubbing alcohol to this to add additional spooky glow. I will say the combination of the water soaked seeds made it hard for the dye and powder to dissolve and sort of negated the glowy-ness. Next time I will just add some green food coloring. I may go back and add more glowing resin to the jar for next time.

To complete the top of the lid... I have combined the handmade cast resin pieces from some found objects, some wire, bead findings and a recycled mini perfume bottle {which also has a bit of glowing resin inside}. I used some wire to wrap the ends of each resin bone together with a wire wrapped bead between, then twisted wire snugly to secure around edge of jar lid. The top of the jar is layered with the recycled perfume bottle atop of the resin cast faucet handle.

The completed jar is just so SpOoKy cool!!

The jar looks so amazing by itself, though I have a few other oddities to cluster with this gruesome collection of eyes. The faux slimy eyes will only last a day or two, so I will discard the "eyes" and rise out the jar... and the FOOD SAFE glowing green resin goodness in the bottom will remain – ready and waiting for next Halloween.

Mirror, Mirror on the #Cre8time Wall... SpOoky Frame REDUX by Lara Hjorthoy

Hello Artists! Lara here and its my personal favorite time of the year... changing leaves, fall storms, rainy sweater weather, my birthday and of course – HALLOWEEN!!!

So, what have I got in store?
How about this!!!

I wanted to make a different sort of decoration for this Halloween, since my "living room" is largely my studio these days, I wanted something I could sit on my desk to get me in the Halloween spirit!

My steps for this project began with finding a worthy skull! I scoured the thrift shops around town and eventually found a small plastic skull that I thought would be a delicious mold, using the Amazing Mold Putty!

I wanted this skull to glow for this project and have a spooky vibe to it, so I used the Alumilite dye in violet for some colour, but mixed in some Alumilite Phosphorescent powder as well. I mixed a small amount of Amazing Clear Cast Resin and added both of those products to it and mixed well!

I waited a little bit to allow the bubbles to pop a bit and then poured it into my mold – with a very thin stream to make sure any additional bubbles popped along the way!

While I waited, I prepped my found frame! This is also a great find from the same Thrift Store! I wanted something that was a bit ornate and sprayed the frame a matte black! It looked so cool all painted up! This particular frame has a backing attached to it and was perfect as there is quite the depth between the back and the front, so it has lots of room to pour more resin!

I glued the backing using Gorilla glue and let that dry, making sure that there was no holes along the seam. I want my resin to pool in the center!

Once the skull had cured, and the frame had sealed I added the skull into the centre of the frame, and mixed up another batch of Amazing Clear Cast Resin and added more Violet dye. I made it a bit darker this time as I wanted to it to look dark and spooky and poured the resin into the frame! Here it is wet and starting to cure {sorry for the reflection}!

After the proper drying time... THIS is what happened!

My spooky skull desk picture! That glows in the dark!

Creeperific #Cre8time Jewels... Amazing DIY Coffin Pendants by Tracy Alden

Hello! Tracy here with another Amazing Casting Products tutorial! Spooky crafting and decorating is in full swing at my house, with new ghosts and goblins appearing around every corner daily! Looking for a new way to show some Halloween cheer I brewed up a fun project with a little help from Amazing Mold Putty and Amazing Clear Cast Resin!

Supplies:

Many years back I saved a small coffin shaped package the once held plastic vampire fangs, I knew the shape would be perfect to mold! I cleaned the packaging, careful to remove all stickers and dust.

I placed the small coffin on an clear acrylic block, mixed up Amazing Mold Putty {CLICK HERE to view mixing/preparation}, and molded it around the coffin. Being that it was on an acrylic block I could flip it over to see if I had the Mold Putty pushed up tight along the edges.

I needed the mold to have a flat bottom, so I used the lid from one of the Amazing Mold Putty jars to press carefully against the yet uncured mold putty. I made sure to let the Mold Putty fully cure before removing the acrylic block, lid and the original plastic coffin.

I carefully sliced halfway down the mold with a craft knife to create a tiny groove to be able to place and hold tight a jewelry eye pin. I wasn't worried about too much future resin seepage since the slice was paper thin.

I slid into the newly created groove a jewelry eye pin. When I poured resin into the mold it would catch the metal pin firmly in place to later wire wrap into a bail for the pendant.

I mixed up a small portion of Amazing Clear Cast Resin, making sure to slowly stir to reduce air bubbles and let it sit for 5 minutes. Using toothpicks, I put a tiny drop of Black Alumilite Dye into a small mixing cup. I filled the mold 1/4 with the tinted resin.

I carefully placed the 3 skull shaped beads covered in Lt. Green Alumidust in the still liquid tinted resin. While the resin cured I sprinkled a little micro crystal glitter to add some shimmer. If at any point the skull beads shifted out of place, a nudge back in place with a toothpick, helped resolve any wayward beads. I let the resin cure until a tacky set.

My second layer of resin I poured until it coated the top and sides of the skull beads with the beads just ever so slightly raised out of the resin. It gave the spooky look of skulls rising out of the murky depths of a darkened coffin! I let this layer cure completely, removed the pendant from the mold and then carefully trimmed the edges with craft scissors.

Using the 1500, 1800 sanding pads from the Alumilite Polishing Kit, I sanded the sides and back of the resin coffin pendant to a smooth matte finish.

Using a cosmetic sponge I applied black chalk paint to the sides and back of the coffin pendant. *This step is optional* – but I wanted to complete the look of old dark coffin.

Using needle nose pliers I wrapped the wire into a tight loop, added some jumprings and strung it on a chain. I loved the look so much I even tried a second pendant in gold and black tones! By changing the tint of the resin, the style of beads, inclusions and embellishments any wild assortment of ghoulish glam can be created!

Last Minute #Halloween Costumes... a Wendigo Creepy #Cre8time Transformation by Maria Soto

Hi there! It's Maria and today I want to share a fun project I made just last night. See my son decided to dress up for his Halloween party at school. He is currently attending the American Academy of Art in Chicago. When he heard they were having a costume contest, he completely changed the costume idea he had in mind and decided he wanted to go as a "Wendigo" from a video game he loves to play called "Until Dawn".

He asked his sister if she could do the make up and asked me if I could make the special teeth... of course I told him "no"... I needed more than two days to make it happen. So I sent him to the store to buy some teeth. He understood and he came home with these vampire teeth, and he asked me if there was a way I could make them look creepy. Of course I said "YES"!

http://chuy-creativity.blogspot.com/2015/10/resin-transformation-vampire-to-creepy.html#.VjKCeKKYVhY

I just sat there for a while trying to think on what I could do – I thought why not try and make a mold with Amazing Mold Putty, then use Amazing Casting Resin to make new teeth and use the resin to adhere them onto the vampire teeth he purchased.

I have to say, it was a bit of challenge for me. Once I got the idea in my head, I figured I had to give it a try and hope that it would work. Well... these products didn't fail me – they did exactly what I hoped they would do! I loved how these products never let me down... its like all I have to do is imagine what can I do next with them, and then go for it.

If you want to see the full process of how
this Creepy transformation happened,

The Upcycled Mummy's Curse! A spOoky #Cre8time #DIY by Tracy Alden

Hello! Tracy with another home decor creation using Amazing Casting Products! I had some rather odd inspiration for this project and it all started with me finding some fun plastic Halloween skulls at a Thrift store. With two of them, I made Ghoulish Glam Skulls and the rest I saved for Halloween decor around the house.

While I was outside in the garden one of our dogs, Luna, decided to play in the house, the skulls were close to her toys and she cracked one of them. I of course couldn't be angry with her playing though her rather adorable "I totally did NOT do that" face also helped. When I was about to throw out the skull, an idea came to me, why not use the cracked skull as a base for a Halloween mummy head prop?

Supplies:

With the crack being along the side of the eye socket and most of the left side of the skull I needed to stabilize the now fragile skull. I thought of using Amazing Casting Resin but I needed to seal the hole before filling the skull with resin. I taped up the crack with clear packing tape, creating a temporary seal for the resin.

Knowing if I were to fill up the whole skull with Amazing Casting Resin would require not only a lot of resin but make the skull on the heavy side I needed to put some sort of filler inside the skull. Using used clean paper bags and aluminum foil crumpled up I slipped them inside the skull through a hole in the bottom.

Next I made small batches of Amazing Casting Resin poured it through the hole in the bottom of the skull. By pouring small batches and then tilting the skull I was able to make sure all of the inside of the skull was equally covered with resin, stabilizing the plastic skull. This process went very quickly because Amazing Casting Resin sets up in 10-15 minutes. I ended up using 3/4 of a resin kit to fill the inside of the skull.

Once I had filled up the inside of the skull I hot glued a tape roll to the bottom of the skull to create a neck for the mummy head. Any gaps between the tape roll and the skull I filled in with aluminum foil and hot glue.

I then mixed up some Amazing Casting Resin and poured it into the newly formed neck of the mummy head. I put some extra foil into the neck cavity and filled it up with more Amazing Casting Resin, using up all of the kit.

Once the resin was cured, I removed the tape from the now resin filled crack and removed any excess resin spills off the skull.

Since not much of the plastic would be visible under the wrappings but I didn't want it looking like a skull I painted the skull a mixture of yellow, brown and black acrylic paint. I glued on used tea bags to create eyelids and created a nose out of paper bags and tin foil. I glued on some loose tea grounds to give the look of sand/dirt and sealed it with Liquitex Matte Varnish.

To create wrappings: I dyed cotton muslin fabric in a bath of hot black leaf tea and bags. I let it soak for a few hours to stain and then let the fabric dry. Once dry I tore the fabric into 2 inch strips to make wrappings. I started applied the wrappings to the skull with a bit of Beacon's Gem-Tac and started to wind it around the skull. I didn't use any set pattern or style; I just had fun and made sure to cover up any of the more skull-like features of the head.

Once I was finished wrapping the skull I liked the overall look but felt it needed something more to create the look of age.

Since real mummies still have old oils and resin still visible on the surface of their wrappings I created some out of Liquitex Gloss Varnish mixed with some Brown Alumilite Dye. I used the varnish instead of resin because I wanted to control how it dripped and needed it to dry quickly. The Alumilite Dye allowed me to tint the varnish without losing the transparent nature of the varnish.

Once dry this spooky decor is a perfect addition to my
creepy curiosity cabinet on display for Halloween!
