#Cre8time by the Sea... DIY Seaside Miniatures by Tracy Alden

Hello! Tracy here to share another tutorial with you! My continued obsession with miniatures is often a driving force behind my polymer clay projects and today's project is no exception. While the process of finding new miniatures to add to scenes or settings is fun, sometimes one can only find only a few pieces, not enough to complete a diorama. I wanted to have a wide variety of sea-side elements to use without damaging my originals, and this is were Amazing Mold Putty came to the rescue!

Supplies:
  • Amazing Mold Putty
  • Small shells, sea life charms or any small enough object to pass for a miniature
  • Small pieces of colored polymer clay
  • Stylus, small
  • Ceramic Tile
  • Craft Knife
  • Paint Brush
  • Acrylic Paint

I collected as many vintage small metal charms, shells and even a tiny pair of antique sand dollar earrings to mold. Since the metal pieces had sentimental value I didn't want to use them in my miniature scene but they could make wonderful molds to create miniatures out of polymer clay!

I mixed up some Amazing Mold Putty{CLICK HERE to view mixing/preparation}, and molded it around the pieces. I was careful not to press the mold putty too much into the tiny crevices of the shells to make it easier to remove them later.

Once the Amazing Mold Putty cured I removed the original pieces. To close up any molded loops created by the metal charms I mixed up and pressed tiny little wads of Mold Putty into the open portion of the mold as seen in the above photo.

I conditioned the polymer clay, making sure the clay was soft and warm enough to be pushed into the molds. I pushed little wads of clay into each mold and made sure the clay was filling the molds by pushing down the clay with a small stylus. I then put the molds filled with clay on a ceramic tile into a toaster oven, per manufacturer instructions, to bake. Amazing Mold Putty can easily tolerate the oven temperatures required to cure polymer clay.

Once the polymer pieces were cured and cool to the touch, I popped them out of the molds and trimmed any uneven edges on the miniatures with a craft knife. I applied acrylic paint to detailed portions of the clay, rubbing off excess paint with a paper towel.

With so many charms and small objects perfect to mold and use for miniature art, the creative possibilities are endless!

BYOB to a #Cre8time Happy Hour.... by Tracy Alden

Hello! Tracy here with another Amazing Casting Products tutorial! I will let you in on a secret, I have a bit of a collecting miniatures addiction. I love searching for all kinds of miniatures and typically I will buy them without even having a miniature scene or project in mind. This happened with an adorable collection of miniature cocktail cups I found. With Summer in full swing I got to thinking about making mini versions of the beautiful, bright and tasty drinks that are a great way to relax in the summer.

Supplies:
  • Amazing Clear Cast Resin
  • Alumilite Dyes
  • 1/12th scale Miniature cocktail glasses
  • Polymer Clay
  • 21 gauge wire in gold and silver tones
  • Red Seed Beads
  • Wirecutters
  • Toothpicks
  • Stir Sticks
  • Craft scissors
  • Tweezers
  • Needle nose pliers and earring wires (only needed if you plan to make the miniatures into earrings)
  • Ultra Fine White Glitter for "salt" and Micro Fine Shell White Glitter for "sugar" on the cups
  • Beacon Gem-Tac Permanent Glue

With many of the miniature sets and collections available, you will find they are often made of plastic, resin or porcelain. In this case the set was made out of plastic and a few of the cups just needed a quick sanding to remove any raw or uneven edges. I then carefully cleaned them with soap and water and left them to dry.

Resin drips are an unavoidable aspect of creating resin art. However I rarely throw those cured drips away, as they can always be used as filler for other projects or, in this case resin ice cubes! By picking the thinnest and longest resin drips I cut them up into tiny little bits and shards, perfect for emulating ice cubes.

By using the miniature martini glass for size comparison I made sure all of the resin was cut small enough and to size for the cocktail glasses.

To create the look of sugar on the rims of the glasses, I put a thin bead of Beacon Gem-Tac Permanent Glue and then carefully pushed the cup into a pile of Micro Fine Shell White Glitter. To give the look of salt on the margarita glass I once again applied glue and this time applied Ultra Fine White Glitter in the same manner.

Using polymer clay I created tiny lime and pineapple wedges and gently pushed them onto small lengths of 21 gauge wire and baked them per manufacturer instructions. Once they were cool I added some small red seed beads onto a few of the wire elements. These would become the toothpicks with fruit embellishments commonly seen as decoration in mixed drinks.

I mixed up a small portion of Amazing Clear Cast Resin, making sure to slowly stir to reduce air bubbles and let it sit for 5 minutes. Using toothpicks I put a tiny drop of Alumilite Dye into a small mixing cup. Starting from the left I had my untinted resin, a cup with 1 drop yellow + 1 drop brown, a cup with 1 yellow drop, a cup with 2 drops blue and a cup with 2 drops red. These were my base colors that I used mix with each other or add to my untinted resin to create the look of the drinks.

Each cup I would fill halfway with tinted resin by using that oh so expensive tool, the toothpick. If I felt the drink needed some ice cubes I would carefully add some of the resin ice cubes I created earlier and then top with more tinted resin. To create the illusion of a drink with carbonation I would let the resin rest until it reached the consistency of thick syrup, then stir the resin rapidly and pour it into the cup. I would then carefully place a small wire with fruit elements into to the tinted resin and let cure.

A wide assortment of drinks was easy to create by
just mixing different tinted resins together!

With a miniature Happy Hour at your fingertips don't forget
a nice cup of green tea for the designated driver!

Mini Shoes made for Walking with the help of Amazing Mold Rubber by Tracy Alden

Hello! Tracy here with a project using Amazing Mold Rubber. I have collected miniatures since a young age and love finding new ways to create new custom pieces. One of my favorite miniature crafts to do is to customize toys of all sizes and shapes. Accessories and (as in this case) shoes can be a perfect element to any custom piece.

I wanted to use polymer clay to create the shoes for doll costumes but I didn't want to have to deal with a complete doll while sculpting the shoes, that could possibly get ruined by the uncured polymer clay. So my idea was to mold the doll feet with Amazing Mold Rubber, then pour Amazing Casting Resin casts of the feet to use while creating the shoes in polymer clay.
Supplies:

I started off by picking three different sized dolls to make molds of their feet. I covered their upper bodies with clear plastic wrap to protect them from any spills. Using a medium deli cup I placed the wrapped dolls in a circle with their feet in the cup, held in place by small stands. The stands prevent the dolls from shifting while the Mold Rubber cures. Carefully following the instructions I mixed up the Amazing Mold Rubber and slowly poured it into the deli cup, making sure to get around the doll legs.

As you can see from this photo the mold holes for the feet are small and go several inches down into the Amazing Mold Rubber. I needed a way to easily take out the resin pieces while not damaging the mold.

I created wire hooks with old paper clips as my handles to place in the resin, making them easier to remove. I left one loop on top and made a tight loop on the bottom to be placed in the mold.

I mixed up a batch of Amazing Casting Resin mixed with some Alumilite Violet Dye (the dye helps highlight details you would otherwise miss when making the shoes) and poured the resin into the mold. I placed the tight loop end of the paper clips into the resin before the it cured. Once the resin was fully cured I could use the embedded paperclip as a hook to help pull out the resin feet.

I made as many feet casts as I needed but once I no longer needed the mold I cut up the mold with a pair of sharp scissors into little slivers and chunks. I place these in a jar to use in future molds as filler. You can do the same for any cured drips or spills of Amazing Mold Rubber.

Now to start on the shoes! I rolled out polymer clay stacking it up several layers and cut the stacks a bit bigger than each resin foot. Using the heel of each foot as measurement I knew how high to stack the clay.

Once I got the stacks of clay to the desired height, I carefully pressed
each foot into the clay and started to trim the excess.

Once I trimmed enough polymer clay to put the stacks upright I placed each resin foot on the clay and pressed lightly down making an impression and giving me a guide to trim the clay into the shape of wedge shoes.

Once the shoes were completely trimmed I smoothed out the clay
and baked them as per manufacturer's instructions.

After I baked the polymer clay, I lightly sanded and trimmed
the edges of the pieces with a craft knife and an emery board.

I rinsed off all the dust, used acrylic paint to decorate the clay
shoes and sealed them using Liquitex Gloss Varnish.

I added ribbon and stickers to finish the look. Now I have cute and trendy miniature shoes for my custom doll work! Taking it a step further you could even make molds of your finished shoes to recreate them for other craft projects!

Edgar Allen Poe Mini Books... an AMAZING Tutorial
by Isabel Villarreal

Hi there! This is Isabel and in the next few steps I'll show you how easy it is to make your own mini books using Amazing Crafting Products, some fabric and a little imagination.

This month I'm focusing on creative things to do with old books and book pages. In continuing with my obsession for all things Poe, I'm making as many things as possible with my old tattered Edgar Allan Poe story collection. These mini books stand as individual art pieces as well as making unique jewelry pieces. As an added treat they each have their own hidden secrets inside.

To begin, I took some old flyers and cut them down to the size and shape I wanted for the books. I made two stacks: one thick stack for the body of the book and another thin stack for the cover. Each stack was glued together using craft glue between each layer. Once the glue dried, I used an exacto knife to hollow out the centers of both books, leaving the "covers" intact.

I will be creating a whole "set" of 6 books, so instead of spending hours making individual paper books, I used Amazing Mold Putty to create a mold that would yield multiple copies in minutes. I wasn't sure if the Mold Putty would stick to the paper so to avoid a set back, I coated the paper "books" with a protective layer of Mod Podge®. Mixing equal parts of "A" & "B", I made a small amount of Amazing Mold Putty to fill the hollow areas first. Leaving the set putty in the center, I then mixed enough putty to cover the rest of the book, with the hollowed out part facing down. The Amazing Mold Putty set in about 10 minutes leaving 2 perfect molds that I could use over and over again. Perfect!!

If you've never used Amazing Casting Resin, you have got to try this stuff! I measured equal parts of "A" & "B" and mixed them together in a small paper cup until the mixture was clear. Once it was clear, I immediately poured the mixture into my molds and allowed it to set for 10 minutes. I repeated the process for each of the books I'm making. As you can see, I'm working with 2 different book sizes. In about 30 minutes I had a complete set of 6 molded and cast mini books ready for decoration.

I prepared some Sculpey clay, and I cut pages out of my Poe story collection ( I used 6 different stories) and fabric pieces to size and prepared to get creative. Using the Sculpey clay, I sculpted small pieces fitting each story theme to place inside the mini books. When the clay was ready I painted the hollowed out centers of the books and painted and glued the sculpted pieces. The next step was to coat the cast mini books with craft glue and paste the cut book pages in place. For the hollowed parts I glued the paper pages in place and when they were dry I used an exacto to carefully cut out the centers.

Use craft glue to coat the outside of the mini books and press the fabric into place. Be sure to pay special attention to the "spine" of the book. The fabric will act as the binding to hold the two book pieces together and allow it to open and close easily. Now glue the cover image and you've got a mini book! As a final step I used Amazing Clear Cast Resin to seal the inside and front cover of the book. Along the white resin edges, I used Alumilite Bronze metallic powder mixed with Acrylic Gloss Medium to give the "pages" a gilded look. I made 2 sets of these - one as a complete set for shelf display and on the other set I attached bails to use them as one-of-a-kind wearable art pendants.

You can use this idea to make a keepsake box for a lock of hair, a first tooth or any other precious memento. Make your mini book personal by replacing the cover image with a baby's photo, an image of a loved one or any snap shot of a special moment.

What secrets will your mini book hold?

I'd love to see what you create! Please upload and share your creations to the NEW
user GALLERY on the Amazing Mold Putty Website for all the world to see.
