Spending #Cre8time TRAVELING amongst the Stars... AMAZING Inspiration by Susan M. Brown

Hello Amazing Crafters! Susan with some WHOvian inspiration today. Remember a while back I created a pendant from a rubber stamp using Amazing Mold Putty and Amazing Casting Resin??? Today, I am sharing another mold that I've created to show the AMAZING detail captured by Amazing Mold Rubber... except this is a FANDOM favorite – the Blue Police Box from Doctor Who.

**PLEASE NOTE** I am the illustrator of this stamp and have obtained permission from the manufacturer, Viva Las VegaStamps! in order to do this {as I did with the previous molded stamp}.  Before doing a project such as this you need to check with the companies ANGEL POLICY to make sure you aren't in violation.

This mold I created along with several others prepared when mixing an entire container of Amazing Mold Rubber {please CLICK HERE to view mixing/preparation}. When mold was cured, I painted a variety of blue, gold and pearl Alumidust directly to the mold using a fine paintbrush, and poured a layer of Amazing Clear Cast Resin. I could have used this "AS IS" but I wanted it to have the glowing bright blue color of a proper vessel for time travel.

  

This is easily remedied! I placed resin piece back into mold and I prepared a small batch of Amazing Clear Cast Resin by mixing equal parts of "A" and "B" {CLICK HERE to view preparation}. To that I added a couple dabs of Blue Alumidust using a recycled coffee stir stick from Starbucks {I just picked a bit up on the end of the stick about 3 times}.

   

I stirred completely, then poured on top of the cured resin piece.

I used the stick to spread evenly and fill the remaining space in the mold.

   

BAM! After curing overnight – my Blue Police Box is truly GLOWING! I trimmed off the flashing with scissors and filed the edges with an emory board. WHO Are You Cre8ting With??? Amazing Crafting Products and Frog Dog Studios!!!

Good Morning Amazing Crafters! Today is Sci-Fi Saturday... and our AMAZING Creative Team designer Sandra Strait has worked her magic combining Amazing Crafting Products with the January Kit from Frog Dog Studio. Included in the January Frog Dog Studio kit is a wooden mini-album from Genuinely Jane Studios in the shape of an old-fashioned telephone booth. Being an avid Doctor Who fan, Sandra immediately thought of a T.A.R.D.I.S. (Time and Relative Dimension(s) In Space). These are the ships that Time Lords use to travel time and space – and she decided to make one of her very own. You are in for a treat!

The Frog Dog Studio kit has lots of other exciting pieces too -- tissue with the names of cities printed on it, Liquitex Acrylic Inks, pleated cardstock, clear stamps, stamp-pad and assorted ephemera. Loads of goodies to play with!

Some of the ephemera caught Sandra's eye to use as panels and to create knobs.

The AMAZING Doctor Who and the Mushroom Planet... from Guest Designer Sandra Strait

You know you're a crafting geek when your project pairs dried food from the local Oriental market with the rubber stamp of a blue police box.

Oh yeah, Doctor Who fans. You know what I'm talking about!

Supplies:

• Amazing Mold Putty
• Amazing Clear Cast Resin
• Amazing Casting Resin
• Alumilite Metallic Powders - Bronze, Copper, Gold
• Alumilite Dye - Blue, Yellow, Red
• Viva Las VegaStamps! Images - Blue Police Box -19054 Plate 909 & 925 
• Amazing Mold Putty Container
• Dried Shitake Mushroom
• Dried Morel Mushroom
• Dried Fungus
• Ginseng sticks
• ATC Sized Illustration Board
• Scrap of patterned paper (to fit container)
• Black Enamel Accents
• White Enamel Accents
• E6000 glue

I mixed the two parts of the Amazing Mold Putty and created molds from two kinds of mushrooms, some dried fungus, licorice root and ginseng stalks. For the mushrooms I made 2 part molds.

As a base for the project, I used a mold I had made earlier this year for a Dragonfly ATC. 

Rubber stamps will stick to Amazing Mold Putty if you don't use Mold Release so I painted on 3 coats to my Blue Police Box stamp before molding it.

I dusted the molds for the mushroom planet with Alumilite Metallic Powders and used Amazing Casting Resin, which cures white. Like the putty, it comes in two parts which must be mixed together. 

For the Blue Police boxes I added blue Alumilite Dye to Part "A" of the Amazing Clear Cast Resin. The clear cast resin requires more care to avoid bubbles and has longer curing times, but the procedure is basically the same, though the curing time is 24 hours.

Four police boxes were cast, though I only ended up using three of them around my container; so there is a police box showing no matter which way you turn the assembled piece.

I also cast a few clear resin mushrooms and fungus using the red and yellow Alumilite Dyes. There wasn't room for them, so don't be surprised when they pop up in another project.

I wanted a more natural and mottled look for my mushrooms, so I sanded them with fine sand paper until some of the white showed. I added spots to the fungus with Black and White Enamel Accents. I think they look a bit like fossilized mushrooms, so hopefully the Doctor isn't planning for fresh mushrooms to eat!

I decided to tear the lid off the container, feeling it would ruin the aesthetic. Then I glued the police boxes to the container and then the container to the ATC base (does that make this a chunky ATC?) I played around with the ways to add the mushrooms and fungus until they all seemed to fit, then I glued them on. 

And now I have a cool Doctor Who ensemble that I can use to hold small items. Or I may buy some tea lights and just use it for decoration.
