Address your Home Digits... 12 Days of Home Decor #ACPthrowback

Hello Amazing Crafters! For day two of our 12 Days of Amazing Home Decor we revisit a project by creative Lonnie Sexton. We are always thinking about how to improve things inside the home... and Lonnie has come up with a creative way to customize and light up the numbers on his home.

Lightbulb moment!!! With Amazing Casting Products Lonnie had an idea to address the outside of his home and make a plaque for his house that lights up at night. Since he only needs to cast one finished project, creating a permanent rubber mold really isn't necessary. Enter Amazing Remelt – a one step, easy-to-use molding product that's reusable... and a great option for one-off casting projects! CLICK HERE to view how it works.

Using Amazing Clear Cast Resin and Amazing Remelt, Lonnie created this custom address plaque that he backed with a solar yard light. This is so lovely in clear, but think of the possibilities by adding color with Alumilite Dyes or Metallic Powders!

What would you cast in Amazing Remelt
for updating your home decor?

Can I Slice an Orange??? Pocket Knife REDUX by Lonnie Sexton

Hello Makers! Lonnie here to share another project using Amazing Casting Products. Somehow, I've ended up with a small collection of knives over the years. One in particular came with handles I didn't like so I broke out some Amazing Mold Putty and some Amazing Casting Resin to I make some colorful custom handles.

Parts List:

I started by removing the handles from each side. Then mixed equal amounts of Amazing Mold Putty and pressed the handles into the putty and let cure. After the mold cured, I mixed Amazing Casting Resin and Alumilite Orange Dye, then filled the molds. When cured, I removed and I drilled a countersink large enough for the screw head to sink below the surface of the handle. I finished it off with a 200 grit sandpaper for a matte finish.

What tools would you customize

AMAZING #Cre8time Home Decor Plaques...
by Lonnie Sexton

I have been wanting to experiment with resin plaques. One of the reasons was to make an address plaque for my house that lights up at night. Creating a permanent rubber mold really wasn't necessary because I am only going to cast one finished project. Amazing Remelt is great for these one off casting projects. Enter the newest molding product from Amazing Casting Products – Amazing Remelt! Amazing Remelt is a gelatin-like molding product that is heat activated and reusable. It's liquefied by heating to above 120º F and solidifies by cooling off.

I have learned through a bit of a learning curve that some typical molding methods don't work with Amazing Remelt. Due to the heat of the liquefied Remelt, materials like modeling clay, hot glue, cell foam, foam and polystyrene are not good candidates for creating a master to then mold with Amazing Remelt. Nevertheless - this product is one step and easy to use. CLICK HERE to view preparation.

Using a solar yard light, Amazing Clear Cast Resin and Amazing Remelt, I created this custom address plaque. Hope it inspires you to make your own plaques.

What would you cast in Amazing Remelt
to update an area of your home decor?

#Cre8time FAUX Film... AMAZING #DIY Colored Casting Layers by Lonnie Sexton

It preparation for another project I needed some thin colored layers to insert in and on clear cast. I found some transfer filter film but the cost per sheet doesn't really justify cutting it into pieces and it's flimsy. I remembered pouring left over Amazing Clear Cast Resin on wax paper. It ran out thin and created a thin layer of casting 'film' when cured. This film can be used in other casting projects to created the desired effect, shape, design, lettering, etc.

Parts/Tools:

Steps:
  • Create a Clay Barrier
  • Prep a level work area
  • Mix, Pour and Leveling
  • Cutting, shaping, etc.
  • Uses

Clay Barrier

Roll the modeling clay to aproximately 1/8" inch thick.

Cut the clay into strips.

Place the strips on wax paper and press lightly together at the seams.

Prep a Level Work Area

Using a bubble level straight edge, make sure you have a sturdy level surface to work on. I'm using a 24 inch x 24 inch painted board. Make sure its level in both directions near perfect to ensure the film is uniform thickness.

Mix, Pour, Leveling

Apply mold release to the clay edges. Pour and separate parts each of "A" and "B" for preparing three (3) batches of Amazing Clear Cast Resin. To view mixing and preparation please CLICK HERE.

Add to each part "A" the desired amount of Alumilite Dye. Mix the color darker as spreading it thin with lighten the cured product.

Pour out approximately half of the Amazing Clear Cast Resin batch into each section. Tilt the work surface in all directions to cover the entire surface. Add more resin as needed. Be careful not to over tilt and/or over fill. The layers should be from 1/32" in to 1/16" thick. Let Cure.

Cutting and Shaping

After the casting is cured the thin layers can be cut into shapes using medium duty scissors or craft knife. It will also be pliable depending on how thick is was poured.

Uses

These thin colored film layers can be used in other casting projects or crafting experience. Unlike plastic film, colored casting layers will adhere perfectly inside other casting projects. They are a little more ridged so the weight of the fresh Amazing Clear Cast Resin will not wrinkle or distort the patterns/shapes you are casting.

Colored Casting Layer Project

In revisiting an ongoing project, I created some shapes from the 3 casting layers.

How awesome will this look lit up???

Thank you for joining in. Come back for more exciting projects
