Spellbinding #Cre8time Jewels... by Kristie Taylor

Hi resin lovers! Kristie Taylor here with a bohemian inspired necklace using Amazing Casting Products. I have in my stash, some oldies but goodies from Spellbinders Paper Arts. These awesome metal bezels are solid and beautiful and have lots of room for inclusions.

I bought some bohemian beads from a local craft store... added some chunky glitter and put this all together – the pendant topped off with Amazing Clear Cast Resin. 

I've ended up with this gorgeous necklace...

Catch a #Cre8time Dream... with Cat Kerr

Hello Amazing Crafters and fellow dreamers! Today we are crushing on this lovely jewelry project created by mixed-media artist Cat Kerr, and she has generously shared her process in a video tutorial.

There are a couple events this week where you can learn more mixed-media goodness and techniques from Cat Kerr. The first being an event on "Live with Prima" via Ustream, tomorrow, Tuesday August 30th, at 2pm EST on Ustreamtv! 

This free "Love More" workshop is all about texture! I will go over the steps I take to add dimension to a RELICS & ARTIFACTS Rising Spirit Relic, along with adding texture to the base of the metal frame. I will also cover the frame in card stock, embellish it with paint, glitter and talk about the value of "Happy Accidents". #Cre8time Celebrations... Windchime American Style by Brenda Burfeind

Happy 4th of JULY everyone! Brenda here from Creativity is a State of Mind and I'm so excited for my post today. If you have been following us here at Amazing Casting Products, you will know that I've been crafting with them for many, many years and the 4th of July has always been my day to post projects. Why? Because it's my hubby's birthday and I am super patriotic, especially on this fine day!

So let's dive right in...

I started out with a paper table cloth I bought at Walmart. It's that crepe-paper style that tears the minute you get it out of the package! This is where the creativity comes in!

You will need a plastic bag, baking/freezer paper

or a teflon sheet to lay your paper on.

I mixed up some Amazing Clear Cast Resin to make my resin paper. All you need to do is mix up the resin and you find view the easy mixing instructions HERE! Make sure you wear gloves and coat both sides of your paper evenly and leave it alone for a couple of hours. I think my paper set up in about 4 hours.

Now onto step 2 ...

With my Cricut I cut three stars out of chipboard, "recycled cereal box" to be exact. With some left over Amazing Clear Cast Resin from the previous step, I covered the stars and "glued" my crepe-paper table cloth onto it and cut around the excess.

I got this "bottle dryer" at a thrift store and knew I was going to use this for my doming. This has been an amazing find for me. It's made out of a rubbery material and the resin comes right off of it. FABULOUS!!

I laid my stars on top and slowly poured my Amazing Clear Cast Resin over the top. Make sure you spread it to all the edges and tips of the stars. Also make sure you have this placed on a LEVEL table. You do not want your stars to have more resin on one side or the other. 

This set up in about 12 hours. It might have been less but I left it alone for that long.

By using the "recycled cereal box" it

gave the stars an aged look. LOVE IT!

So after my resin paper had dried I took an embroidery hoop and cut out a circle. Again mixing up a tiny bit of Amazing Clear Cast Resin, I applied that to the edge of the embroidery hoop. I could have used another glue, but I wanted to make sure it looked even. SURE – use your clear cast as glue!!!

Since the paper was already covered with resin it didn't "bleed" through and I was able to use my homemade clamps (clothespins made with my crepe-paper table cloth) to keep it taught. 

This set up in about 20 minutes. GORGEOUS!

I drilled holes into the embroidery hoop and the tips of the stars. Using fishing line I attached the stars with bells to the embroidery hoop and VIOLA, my Patriotic Wind Chime was created.

It was so hard to catch a still photo so here is a very short video on what it looks like swinging in the breeze. AMAZING!!!

#Cre8time Transformations... DIY Memorial Bracelet by Tanya Ruffin

I found an adorable bracelet with space on the backside for adding photos and resin that I thought would make the perfect memory gift for a friend.

I measured out the circles and using CorelDraw software I drew circles and placed the images inside using the power clip feature. After printing with a laser printer I cut out the photos.

Then I simply filled the reservoirs with Amazing Clear Cast Resin and placed the photos inside. CLICK HERE to view resin mixing/preparation. 

I covered the bracelet with a tupperware container to keep dust out while it is curing. I checked on it every few hours and blew on it to pop bubbles.

There ya go, an easy peasy memory bracelet!

When #Cre8time Cardmaking goes Bird Crazy... by Bridget Cordero

Hello everyone! I remember as a child playing with Shrinky Dinks®. I loved taking my colored pencils and coloring images and then baking them. It always amazed me how they shrunk. So I decided to mix two of my favorite products together and see what I come up with!

Honor Love and Unity with a #Cre8time Wearable Rainbow... by Isabel Villarreal

February is for love and to celebrate it I made this using a bezel bracelet from The Bottle Cap Co. There's a rainbow of color in this simple but gorgeous bracelet. Each bezel is filled with bright, glittery resin in honor of love and unity. 

With Amazing Clear Cast Resin and Alumilite Dyes, making colorful and fun jewelry pieces is super easy. Just a drop of color (it really doesn't take much) mixed into the resin can give you truly vibrant, beautiful color that will bring your creations to life.

I started with a few drops of color in each bezel then added a clear top layer to create a dome and finish each bezel. I used a mixture of regular and Fluorescent Alumilite Dyes to create this rainbow bracelet. A dash of iridescent glitter added to each color gave it a great visual boost. Each bezel is like a little galaxy of stars and color and really captures light in amazing ways.

A CLEARLY Amazing Keepsake Repair... by Heather Kindt

Keepsake Shadow Box Repair

What is resin anyway? Basically, it's a plastic. It's a special plastic that is very hard and clear when it has cured. Resin is fun because it becomes very glass-like. More specific abilities of resin depends on the brand you are using. If you have tried it in the past and been frustrated, it's worth going back to. 

Diamond Glaze, Glossy Accents, and a few others have some great shiny effects for paper crafting. They are ready straight out of the bottle and air dry. So why use a two part product that requires mixing and curing time? Resin has the ability to cover a large surface very quickly and much more economically. I have never seen Tim Holtz (who one cannot help but adore) filling up his shadow boxes with Glossy Accents.

I do not share this today to imply anything against Tim Holtz or the Glossy Accents product. I bring it up because I did coat a tray with Glossy Accents. Actually two keepsake trays – for two beloved family members. I share this in an effort to show visually why in the future, I will go the route of layering and sealing with resin. The compartments turned uneven and warped. I can hardly stand to look at it now – it's such a mess. 

This is the keepsake tray I made in honor of my father-in-law. He passed away, and I had this tray on display at his memorial service. I wanted to repair this. Since the items were already sealed with a coating of the Glossy Accents, and thoroughly dried, I figured I could repair by pouring over a layering of Amazing Clear Cast Resin. 

 

A Note: I did not prep the Glossy Accent surfaces with anything and I didn't sand it. I poured enough Amazing Clear Cast Resin to cover the photos and other items, maybe 1/4 inch thick.

At the time of my tray disaster, I did not know about self-leveling, doming, or the role of surface tension. The paper crafting products I used had high surface tension (the characteristic that causes water to form in droplets), and so it did not even out (or level). Resin will level out as far as it can when you have first mixed it before curing starts. This is why you can easily get a smooth, glassy surface in those jewelry settings (usually bezels).

Here is the tray after I fixed the lumpy areas with Amazing Clear Cast Resin. I wasted time and money trying to get Glossy Accents to work. Now the surfaces are smooth like glass and beautiful. It's hard to photograph something that has become clear, but I think it is obvious that the former lumps are gone – and I am pleased with the results.
