Cat Kerr... an AMAZING Featured Artist Spotlight

Greetings AMAZING Crafters! Today we have a fun questionnaire that we posed to our Featured Artist Cat Kerr! Have fun getting to know her a little better and enjoy the eye candy, too! :) Sb

A little bit about Cat...

Some fun questions for the inquiring minds...

What did you want to be when you grew up?

"All through Middle and High School I wanted to be Fashion Designer. I still love fashion, and it was a full circle moment for me when last year my jewelry was featured in a fashion magazine called "Belle Armoire". It was my first "interview" type article in the "Art of Presentation" Series."

Coke or Pepsi???

"Neither, I only drink seltzer water."

What inspires you?
"Tree bark. A cool breeze running through the house. My sons laughter, a birds nest, poetry, color, the lack of color, music, the way the sun filters through the trees, the way birds dance in the sky, fabric, sand, texture, rust, vintage, rub-ons, patina, stitch-work, collaboration, unpredictability. Sometimes I feel like... what doesn't inspire me?!!"

What is the TOP thing to do on your "Bucket LIST"?

"Go to Sweet Paris! I have an online class called "Memories of Paris"...
this class was inspired by my love for Paris."

If you could print any phrase
on a T-shirt, what would it say?

"Make Every minute Count!"

If you could mold ANYTHING with
Amazing Mold Putty, what would it be?

"I'm still trying to figure out how to mold popcorn... heehee... yes, that's true."

What style of music gets your creative juices going?

"Currently on my playlist: Pink, Chopin, Pit Bull, movie soundtracks (Pride and Prejudice and Memoirs of a Geisha), Billy Joel, Luther Vandross, Eagles, Salsa Music, Vivaldi, Police, Andrea Bocceli, Lindsey Stirling, Ub40... a little bit of everything."

"Begin"

In 2007, I stumbled across a poem that I read the year before,"The Journey" by Mary Oliver. One night, in the light of the moon, I read it again, ...but this time something clicked. The first line in the poem read, "One day you finally knew what you had to do and began" and for the first time in my life I could make out what my heart had been whispering for so very long. "Begin". In this moment of clarity, the once quiet whisper now thundered loudly deep inside me. Begin what, you ask? Well, it was a dream I carried, a need, a wanting... to create art and set a path for myself. With the support of my husband and family I mustered up the courage and listed my first item up for sale on Ebay. Months later (yes, it took some time) I sold my first piece... but it was never about the money, it was about the connection that someone had with something I made. It was the validation, that I was exactly where I was supposed to be, and now I just needed to keep going. ~ Cat

"The Journey"

One day you finally knew
what you had to do, and began,
though the voices around you
kept shouting
their bad advice --
though the whole house
began to tremble
and you felt the old tug
at your ankles.
"Mend my life!"
each voice cried.
But you didn't stop.
You knew what you had to do,
though the wind pried
with its stiff fingers
at the very foundations,
though their melancholy
was terrible.
It was already late
enough, and a wild night,
and the road full of fallen
branches and stones.
But little by little,
as you left their voices behind,
the stars began to burn
through the sheets of clouds,
and there was a new voice
which you slowly
recognized as your own,
that kept you company
as you strode deeper and deeper
into the world,
determined to do
the only thing you could do --
determined to save
the only life you could save.”

#Cre8time starts at HOME with Amazing Crafting Products

Greetings Amazing Crafters! It's a new month and hopefully May brings Springtime to your hometown. I hope you enjoyed our April Celebration of Mixed Media with our "Partners in Crafting", Frog Dog Studio. Be sure to join us this Saturday {May 3rd} for a special project from the creatives at Frog Dog Studio. You don't want to miss it! It's also National Scrapbooking Day... we will post bright and early so you don't miss any other NSD festivities!

Quite a while back I shared this little paper house shrine inspiration... and it's been sitting on my craft table waiting for a proper home ever since.

Last month I became one of the new columnists at the Unruly PaperArts Blogozine. The first of each month a new themed issue is presented along with a monthly Reader's Art Quest – the May theme for this challenge being "HOME". Eureka... finally a calling to give this wonderful beginning {with a little tweaking} a wonderful permanent home.

I created this mold from a house-shaped frame {that came from an old embroidery kit} using Amazing Mold Putty, then cast in Amazing Casting Resin colored with Gold Alumilite Metallic Powder to create this Little House Shrine embellished with patterned paper and ephemera. Paper shown in this curio is from Bo Bunny's C'est La Vie line. The mini white domino inside the house is molded with Amazing Mold Rubber and cast in Amazing Casting Resin. I've created a whole mixed media scene around my little curious house.
