Hello! Tracy here with another inspiration post using Amazing Crafting Products! This time I wanted to show a wonderful way to use embossing powder on Amazing Casting Resin to give it rusty and old look. It takes a few easy steps but looks wonderful in the end.
I started with a favorite saying of mine: “If at first the idea is not absurd, then there is no hope for it.” by Albert Einstein. It reminds me to think well of the weirdest ideas and I wanted it as a wall decor piece in my craft room. I felt the look of a old metal and stone wall plaque with strange elements would add interest to the saying. This is were my junk drawer comes into play.
*Never underestimate the creative power
of a junk drawer full of old stuff!
Starting with a slab of polymer clay, I stamped the saying one letter at a time into the clay. Then I applied texture, metal bits from the junk drawer and old beads as I did in my Lapel Pin Post.
I applied Amazing Mold Putty in smaller portions as shown in my Wall Plaque Post to catch more detail with the mold material and to create a more rustic surface.
Before pouring any Amazing Casting Resin into the mold, I used a soft bristle brush to dust the inside of a mold with Alumilite Metallic Powders.
Once the Amazing Casting Resin was cured and I removed the resin cast from the mold, I then cut and sanded off any excess cured resin spills and raw edges.
I mixed the acrylic paint with some water to make a color wash and applied it with a paint brush. I used a paper towel to remove the excess. Carefully I traced all of the letters with a permanent marker to make them visually pop more.
Sparingly I applied embossing powder adhesive to the edges, corners and grooves. I applied layers of brown, black, tan, red, green and clear embossing powders to get a old aged look. I used a heat gun to set the embossing powder in place.
One more acrylic color wash was applied to give it that final aged look. I then sealed the embossing powder and paint covered resin piece with Liquitex Matte Varnish. This same embossing powder application technique can be used on any other Amazing Casting Resin project you can imagine!
