#Cre8time Happy Accidents... DIY Butterfly Hairclip by Brenda Burfeind

Good day! Brenda here from Creativity is a State of Mind with a tutorial how to use your resin paper to create a butterfly hairclip. The paper I am going to use today was created by accident, literally!

My box of resin paper.

So what happened... I was going to pour a mold using Amazing Casting Resin and the Violet Alumilite Dye that I had mixed up. While picking up my measuring cup, I knocked it over instead and my resin spilled everywhere. Thank goodness I keep paper towels within arms reach when pouring molds.

I quickly wiped it up and was about to throw the paper towel away when I realized it may come in handy. I laid it out on my teflon sheet (if you don't have one you can also use a white plastic garbage bag) as flat as possible and within 10 minutes it had set up nicely. I tried to make sure that there weren't too many thick areas so that it would still be somewhat pliable and easy to cut.

Then I wondered if my new Stampin' Up butterfly die would work on it?

I located an area of the paper towel with most of the purple, cut around the butterfly and ran it through the Cuttlebug! Perfection!!!

Now the paper towel is pliable and the die cut it out AMAZINGLY! Do you see the awesome texture the paper towel gave the butterfly?

I had just enough of the purple resin area
so that I was able to cut the butterfly twice!

I glued the edges and pinched it together to create a 3D effect.
Kind of like a cage.

I also used a Sharpie to draw in the butterfly body and my E6000®
was the perfect way to attach the butterfly to the hair clip.

I love happy crafty accidents!

:)

My granddaughter has the perfect hair for this awesome butterfly clip.

What would you create
with resin paper?

Thank you for stopping by today and I would love to hear from you. Leave me a comment and tell me what you would create using your Amazing Resin paper!

Until next time, ~ Brenda

#Cre8time Victorian Style with Resin Book Page Roses... by Tanya Ruffin

These delicate resin book page roses look Victorian
on just about anything you put them on!

Take books pages and coat with Amazing Clear Cast Resin.
Let cure. I love using dictionary pages.

Cut flower shapes out by hand or by using a die.
I also used these shapes to also create these resin roses.

Find something awesome to embellish. I picked up
this necklace remnant on a discount aisle.

What will you embellish with
AMAZING resin paper roses?

#Cre8time ADVENTURES!!! 20,000 Funky Leagues Under the Sea Hair Sticks... by Tanya Ruffin

My mission:

To create a Steampunkish set of Hair Sticks using plastic sea animals.

This was a rather simple project that I could glam up if I wanted to. I don't have a thick head of hair so a bigger, more embellished Hair Stick would fall out of my hair. So for me, simpler is better.

I started off with some plastic sea animals.

I made of mold of the Octopus and the Stingray using Amazing Mold Putty.

Thinking of raiding the toy aisle?

I originally made my Octopus the same color dusting the mold with Red Plum Alumidust. I loved how great it looked, but I later painted it black to go more Steampunk. But first, I cast the piece with Amazing Casting Resin.

See how great the Red Plum looked!

As with all castings, I clean up the resin edges with an exacto and a nail file. I cast the Stingray by dusting the mold with Allumilite Silver Metallic Powder. I love this stuff!

I decided to paint the Octopus black and to add some fine glitter to each piece; black and silver. The green piece is just there because the black Octopus was getting lost in the background.

I went to the kitchen and pulled out some chopsticks from a local restaurant and used them as the base for my Hair Sticks.

I watered down some black acrylic paint and painted the chopsticks. I didn't want a thick layer of acrylic because I was scared it would peel. This worked perfect. It was like staining.

Then I glued on my Octopus and Stingray with E6000®. Now I have a quick, simple, funky set of Hair Sticks! Make sure the back side of your pieces are painted and presentable too!

Mission Accomplished!

Now get get some Chinese food and Chopsticks!

How would you embellish and
personalize your Hair Sticks?

Gardenia Flower Hair Clips!

Recently I was playing with my assortment of  buttons and knobs with  Amazing Casting Resin.
In playing with some flower buttons I ended up creating these simple Gardenia like flowers as you can see.
I love working with the Amazing Casting Resin because it not only sets quickly ( 10-15 minutes), but it's a bright white that can be left alone or colored as desired.
I began by mixing equal amounts of the yellow and white Amazing Mold Putty until no trace of  white was seen. Then I rolled the putty into a ball and pressed the flower button 3/4 of the way down. I pinched the edges of the mold up and around the button and left it to set in less than 15 minutes.
Next I mixed equal amounts of the Amazing Casting Resin and poured into the flower mold.
When the flower was set, I popped it out and proceeded to make the hair clip. Above you can see just how easy it was. I criss crossed some felt pieces and glued to the bottom of the flower. Then I added some shiny green organza and attached to the clip. To keep the clip from being glued shut, I put a piece of felt inside the clip.
The Amazing Mold Putty website is having a sale on their Alumilite powders! Save 20% off your entire order. Just enter the code AMP20 before the expiration date of September 30, 2012.
Thanks for coming by, I hope I helped inspired you to create some Gardenia's of your own!
