#Cre8time Happy Accidents... DIY Butterfly Hairclip by Brenda Burfeind

Good day! Brenda here from Creativity is a State of Mind with a tutorial how to use your resin paper to create a butterfly hairclip. The paper I am going to use today was created by accident, literally!

My box of resin paper.

So what happened... I was going to pour a mold using Amazing Casting Resin and the Violet Alumilite Dye that I had mixed up. While picking up my measuring cup, I knocked it over instead and my resin spilled everywhere. Thank goodness I keep paper towels within arms reach when pouring molds.

I quickly wiped it up and was about to throw the paper towel away when I realized it may come in handy. I laid it out on my teflon sheet (if you don't have one you can also use a white plastic garbage bag) as flat as possible and within 10 minutes it had set up nicely. I tried to make sure that there weren't too many thick areas so that it would still be somewhat pliable and easy to cut.

Then I wondered if my new Stampin' Up butterfly die would work on it?

I located an area of the paper towel with most of the purple, cut around the butterfly and ran it through the Cuttlebug! Perfection!!!

Now the paper towel is pliable and the die cut it out AMAZINGLY! Do you see the awesome texture the paper towel gave the butterfly?

I had just enough of the purple resin area
so that I was able to cut the butterfly twice!

I glued the edges and pinched it together to create a 3D effect.
Kind of like a cage.

I also used a Sharpie to draw in the butterfly body and my E6000®
was the perfect way to attach the butterfly to the hair clip.

I love happy crafty accidents!

:)

My granddaughter has the perfect hair for this awesome butterfly clip.

What would you create
with resin paper?

Thank you for stopping by today and I would love to hear from you. Leave me a comment and tell me what you would create using your Amazing Resin paper!

Until next time, ~ Brenda

Macho yet #Cre8time Cool! #Steampunk Frame REDUX by Tanya Ruffin

This was made using a few items from my favorite place... the Dollar Tree!

Start with a frame and a submarine toy. I loved the look of these subs! It looked like something from 10,000 Leagues Under the Sea.  Ok, now I am thinking a Beatlesque item with a YELLOW SUBMARINE!! Now, where do I find some blue meanies??

Using Amazing Mold Putty, I made a mold of the subs.

Once the molds are cured you can dust the inside with Copper Alumidust or use copper Rub 'n Buff® after resin cures (that is how I made this one). I also mixed in some black Alumilite Dye with the Amazing Casting Resin.

Using some left over scrapbook paper and a Sizzix Eileen Hull 3D wrapped Flower die, I made some roses. You can make some similar by using the template included on Victorian Resin roses post or just use some silk roses.

Once cured, I glued the subs and the roses to the frame and inserted a Steampunk'd portrait (shhhh... don't tell my hubby he is in this post).

Yea, I stole a cigar from my hubby's stash for this photo!

And there you go, a macho yet cool picture frame!

Kind of Wild, Wild West-ish with this filter!

What fun ways do you embellish
with Amazing Casting Products?

A Charming #Cre8time at the "SEA"... by Maria Soto

Hi there! Today I want to share a project that was inspired by a charm swap. I took part in a "Mermaid" swap... and can hardly wait to get my box and see what everyone has made. I have painted so many mermaids, that I had to do a special pendant to go along with this theme.

I'm sharing two pendants I made. On one I stamped a mermaid image on a piece of metal, and the other has a photo copy of the mermaid from the first photo below.

First I will share a couple of the mermaid paintings I've done. Once I'm done with one, another one starts right after... and it seems I'm hooked on this theme!

I have several more that I've finished and a couple
in the works. These are 6" x 3 3/4".

These are the materials used to make the metal mermaid heart.

Using ImpressArt® Metal Stamps, I stamped the word "Sea", then using the hammer
I added texture to represent waves and added some blue coloring to the edges.

On this pendant I added a metal stamped mermaid, then used Amazing Clear Cast Resin to glue the mermaid to the metal. Once dried, I added resin over the entire heart and carefully placed the tiny shells over the resin and left it cure over night. The resin gives the pendant a glass like look.

This pendant was a bit quicker to finish. For this charm I used a color copy of the first mermaid I painted (see above). After all the stamping was done, I added the resin to the metal heart, then placed the mermaid image and the shells... and left it alone to cure till the next morning.

I love using Amazing Clear Cast Resin as a sealer on my jewelry making, it is pretty hard to get a very good photo of the resin itself, but trust me it looks just like glass. I love how this charm swap has inspired me, I can hardly wait to get my box full of goodies. I think I might get more inspiration and this might go on for a while.

What you have you done,
that has inspired you to create?

I can't wait to use resin on my art pieces, have quite a few ideas in the works. Thanks for visiting! I invite you to stop over to my blog "What is Creativityat http://chuy-creativity.blogspot.com to see more of my creations. Maria Soto

Resin Roses... a #Cre8time Thorn in My Side by Tanya Ruffin

I had such high hopes for this project in the beginning. BUT this is a good example how a giant FAIL can help you create something even better. So, if anything you will learn what didn't work well and maybe you can perfect my first attempt.

My first attempt was to pour colored resin on a non-stick surface, let it cure and then cut out rose petals using a Sizzix and put together an awesome resin rose. CLICK HERE to view mixing/preparation for Amazing Casting Resin.

Well, first off, resin doesn't fold or curl like paper. Second, unless you want to hold each piece in place for 20 minutes, E6000® won't work. So I attempted to hot glue the pieces. That worked but each petal slowly droops... Now all this work looks like it was constructed from red plastic spoons. EPIC FAIL!

So with my left over red resin sheet I cut out a spiral.

Below are two sketches you can use as a guide for cutting.

This spiral is flipped over, compared to the sketch above.

I then started to curl the spiral from the outside in. I know, you would think you would start rolling from the center out, but it is the opposite.

Get your hot glue gun ready before you start because you will need to glue it when you get it completely rolled... AND you can't let go or it will all unravel!

Your flower is done, add hot glue to the piece left at the end. You can now you can add leaves and punch a hole for a jump ring. I was able to slide one petal inside my Crop-A-Dile™ to punch the hole.

I cut green fun foam leaves and glued to the back. I like the bright red and bright green colors. It makes it look so fairy tale to me!

Add a little glitter in the center and you are done!

What shaped flowers would you create

AMAZING Molds to DIE For!! Making Stencils and Molds from a Die Cutter by Tanya Ruffin

I have seen jewelry made with acrylic shapes and thought, wouldn't it be nice to make my own? So I set out experimenting. I rolled out some Amazing Mold Putty into a flat sheet and ran it through my die cutter using a thin cut die.... It was too thin to cut through the mold putty. So then I made a thinner sheet of Amazing Mold Putty and tried again.... still too thick. Starting to feel like Goldilocks, I tried one more try. This time I used a standard (deeper) die and it was just right!

The shapes I chose were a Fleur-de-lis and Eiffel Tower. Make sure you work over a Teflon craft sheet (Amazing Mold Putty sticks sometimes to the silicone sheets).

Now that I know the magic formula (really just using a deep die), I am ready to begin.

Start with Amazing Mold Putty; mix per intructions equal parts of "A" and "B" just as you would in preparing to cast a mold. Instead, roll the mold putty out flat and rather thin, but not too thin because it will tear. I made mine about the thickness of a quarter. Let mold putty cure prior to next step.

Cut in your die cutter using an original Sizzix or AccuCut die. Do not try with a wafer thin die, they are not deep enough to cut through the Amazing Mold Putty.

There are few ways you can go from here.

For this project I tried all variations using Amazing Clear Cast Resin.

Packing Tape Method – Place packing tape on the back of the mold.

Direct to Teflon – Pour resin in directly on the Teflon sheet.

Paper Backing – Place decorative paper under mold and pour resin on top of it.

Packing Tape Method – I had high hopes for this type, but the bare tape back wrinkled and didn't allow for an even coat of Amazing Clear Cast Resin. Maybe I will try again at another date. Perhaps filled with charms.

Direct to Teflon – This one worked great! There was a little seepage but the Amazing Clear Cast Resin was so thin that it peeled off rather easy. The areas that didn't peel off cut easy with scissors. I also just placed back the inside piece from the die.

Sprinkle a little glitter and now we have a party!

Paper Backing – This is my favorite. I placed a book page under the mold (all on top of the Teflon craft sheet) and poured in the Amazing Clear Cast Resin. It seeped too, but the resin spread (wicked) when it hit the paper and it was super easy to trim up. I then dropped watch parts inside and set aside to fully cure overnight.

After you remove the resin from the mold you may see you have a lip. You can mix up a little more resin and top it off. Be VERY CAREFUL – never fill it up to the top. When I filled it up exactly to the the top; I came back to check on it, and it was all over the place. So leave yourself a little wiggle room.

Now I just have to figure out what to make with these!

What will you make with Die Cut Molds?

Leave a comment below... I'd love to hear your creative spin on this.
